My husband & I went to Hikkaduwa with four of our friends in late September. We had an AMAZING time at the Drifters Hotel & Restaurant! We stayed in 4 newly renovated second floor rooms that opened out to a common open-air (with a roof) lounging space that opened out to the sea - breathtaking!! Two of the four rooms were ocean-front and we were lulled to sleep by the sound of the pounding surf - amazing!! Rooms were simple, but clean, spacious and wonderful! The common area was a huge bonus - we spent our time relaxing, having happy hours, watching sunsets and having lots of fun with friends in this space! We were able to get a nice deal because we booked four rooms during the off-season for a few nights.
The hotel also has a common courtyard area that all of the other 15 or so rooms (as well as this common area) open out to. The staff here is amazing! A local Sri Lankan runs the place and is laid back, but tends to your every need. His wife helps with the cooking on the weekends when she and their two sons are in town - a great family-run, warm, friendly place! They even volunteered to cook us a beach bar-b-que feast with fresh fish (caught that day), chicken, pork, rice, veggies, etc. - delicious!!! This place was a great value and a wonderful memory in my travels!!!More
