We stayed at another local hotel (The Sands) which was great but we were only B&B so decided to try the restaurant at the Mermaid Hotel one evening as we had read good reviews about the food on Tripadvisor. You have the option of the Al la carte menu or the buffet. We chose the buffet option which didn't disappoint. Although a smaller restaurant than The Sands with therefore less options but the quality of the food and the service was great. I am vegetarian but my partner is not and there was plenty of choice for both of us. We only visited once but apparently the buffet changes each evening. A choice of two soups (one meat and one vegetaraian), plus a selection of salads and other starter options, followed by a decent selection of choices of main including Sri Lankan curries, rices, pastas and a live cooking station which was cooking lamb on the evening we went. Desserts included various cakes and pastries. Drinks were at extra cost which was standard in all the hotels but were reasonably priced. Service was great also.
