We recently visited this beautiful place. Unfortunately local guests are not treated that well. The reception staff were not very friendly towards us. The location and the hotel is very beautiful and the food was good. But our room had a faulty air conditioner and water started drip from the ceiling early morning. So if you do visit this hotel make sure you get a room without this problem.

This was my 3rd visit to the hotel, The service, food and the ambience has never changed.
It is very rarely that you get hotel staff treat local travellers the same way as they would to foriegn guests. The lady at the reception was friendly and showed us the way around and to our room. The staff were well trained and well mannered, Professionalism at its best.
Went there with my wife and a couple of friends.
The room is extremely comfortable and very clean. No issues with the bathroom, no leaks no underpressure water etc...
Coming to the food, There wasn't much of a vast selection, but it was good. I stuffed myself during all 3 meals pretty well.
Poolside was also very relaxing, But the only downside was they were serving tea at the poolside and we were charged LKR 150 bucks for it, So i thought it was kind of cheap as we were on full board basis, But nevertherless Wonderful place to chill and relax
Keep up the good work !!
Would visit again !!!

Room Tip: Ask for rooms on the second floor, 300 onwards, Good view of the beach without trees in the garden b...

Flew from Donetsk,Ukraine through Sharjah, UAE by Airarabia (NB! meals are not provided, please be ready make an order on board, prices from 3 til 10$).
We have arrived to hotel around 7 a.m. (difference with Egypt 3 hours and a half). Our transfer guide Gayan was extremely helpful and we were proposed breakfast at 7:30 instead of last day as departure was early morning.
Breakfasts were well varied, our favorite was yogurt, great variety of fruit (sometimes it was 10 kinds, but not ripe guava and pineapple), pork, Indian dishes - spicy enough and even with my stomach problems I did not have any. I drink green tea with brown sugar - so Restaurant Manager daily has brought them on our table. All staff are just fantastic, special thanks for chocolate Birthday cake for my mother - amazing taste.
We have stayed in room 233 and housekeeper was attentive to our requests; and many thanks to Mr. Lakkhana (Front Office Manager), and Mr. Gihan (Rooms Division Manager) - they made our vacation unforgettable. Me and my mother highly appreciate your personal touch.
Noise from the train was heard but it did not disturb us so much.
Territory is green, iguanas, ground squirrels, elephant, birds, fish in pools at reception - have excited us a lot!
Several times we saw Weddings in Lanka tradition - very attractive performance.
Special words to Indian Ocean - I fell in love with it! I saw so many photos before my trip and found exactly what was searching - completely isolated beach with rough waves.
Sun beds are not comfortable - the space between wooden planks on some of them are so wide, that it is inconvenient and painful, some mattresses are cut.
Wi-Fi for 7 days is 15$ (2000 rupees), for 15 hours only; you may use it either in lobby or room.
We tried Ayurveda massage (30 minutes for 1650 rupees). Lobby and reception area in SPA was nice and clean, but room itself could be better and walls of another color.
Yoga was daily conducted by a man - we did not participate but those who tried, enjoyed so much.
Excursions we took from Tangerine - lovely Maria, smiling, polite and positive.
To crown it all - we got positive emotions and recharged ourselves.
Thanks to all the staff!

Room Tip: Room 233 is deluxe - with pool and ocean view.

We have recently returned from two weeks at the Tangerine Beach hotel and can't say enough about the hotel and the staff. It was great value and the staff were always friendly, helpful, kind and out to make your stay a memorable one. There was always plenty of choice in the restaurant and most nights there was a theme with food to fit and staff dressed for the theme. If you like curries then this is most definitely a place to come with great choices at each meal time. For me the desserts section was not to be missed. The chefs certainly know how to impress and every day there was always a huge selection of jellies, puddings, mousses, cakes, gateaux and they were always beautifully presented and it was always hard to resist trying three or four different ones at lunch and dinner! We went on two trips organised by our tour operator and can recommend a trip to Galle - important to see the Tsunami memorial and the town itself with the Dutch fort and English built buildings still standing. The views from the forte are a must as was the boat safari and trip to the turtle hatchery. We also did a three day culture tour with a private driver - beware they are long days but a very good way to see the sights of the country and we can definitely recommend climbing Sigiriya for the views - just pace yourself, go early and take it steady. We did it in about two hours which is average and we are two nearly 60 year olds who are unfit! We also went to the Temple of the Sacred Tooth - which is the most important place in Sri Lanka but beware of the crowds and crushing at 6.30pm when the sacred tooth is opened for viewing. On our last of of this trip we went to the Elephant Orphanage at Pinnewala - I thought the area around was very commercialised but it was such an amazing experience it was well worth it. To see so many elephants all in one place and in that setting was awesome and then to see the baby ones being milk fed was magical but to have lunch at the restaurant overlooking the river where the elephants came down to bathe at 2.00pm - was the icing on the cake. I can recommend it to everyone.

We spent the rest of the holiday around the hotel which has entertainment every evening from Kandyan dancers to snake charmers to a disco - something for everyone. The only slight disappointment is that the beach is not part of the hotel and it was never safe for swimming in the sea or even laying on the beach so if this is important to you then maybe you need to check the best times to go there or go to a different part of the country. The pool was sufficient for us and I even joined in the daily water aerobics which were great fun and a way to get to know other guests. We can highly recommend Sri Lanka for a holiday and in particular the Tangerine Beach hotel and the staff.

The boys who cleaned our room every days did a wonderful job and the restaurant staff were so friendly. Our thanks to everyone who made our holiday one to remember.

Room Tip: Beach facing view

My husband and I enjoyed 7 nights at the Tangerine. We were welcomed by a cold drinks and cold face cloth, which was much appreciated after the long journey.
We were shown to our room which was spacious and clean. We had a beautiful view of the sea.
You could always get a sunbed by the pool whatever time you got out of bed! The food was nice but very repetitive. We were all inclusive but there was no wine included I this which was a disappointment at meal times. The hotel has a dress code at meal times. Men must where long trousers and womens dresses must come to the knee. I found this encouraged people to dress very casual at meal times. Women looked like they were wearing pajama bottoms and big baggy tops! Was disappointed as I had bought quite dressy clothes and felt over dressed in them!
Before we went I emailed Reshni Tours after reading many positive reviews of him on here. He was very helpful when planning our tour and sent us copies of his tourist licence. We finalised our itinerary and agreed a very fair price. (nearly £150 per person less than mercury wanted to charge) we met up with him in the lobby on our first day and paid him and arraned times. Everything ran smoothly. The trip surpassed our expectations it was fantasic. Our own personal driver and a tour guide. Our guide was brilliant very good english he gave us lots of local information and always ensured we were happy. He arranged for other people who were very knowledgeable to take us up sigiriya and around the temple of the tooth. We stayed in beautiful hotels on route which were nicer than the Tangerine! After the trip we were invited to Reshni's home for dinner and drinks! Which was lovely. Can't recommend him enough. The best way to see a beautiful country.

It was lovely to wake up in the morning with a lovely sea view through the palm trees after checking in late at night the day before.
The hotel has nice amenities such as a few and large sitting lounges, spacious green grounds, a tennis court (included if you for for all inclusive!)
The only down turn for us on the all inclusive package we bought was that there was no wine included (at all) and no auger free mixers for the house spirits. The tonic water was absolutely awful and coke was just full fat coke. Diet coke had to be paid apart. Also the internet is not included in the all inclusive package and if you buy a bundle of 10 hours over 7 days it only works in reception area which is quite away from the rooms and bars and pool. The food is absolutely faultless.. There is plenty to choose from, huge variety if local yummy food and some continental options for those not so adventurous. The hotel is about 1:30m drive from Colombo airport and the beach is a nice walk on sunset, if you can get all the local sellers away :)
All in all a nice experience just little petty things they could improve on.

We had two large rooms, as requested next to each other. Upon arrival we were offered to upgrade, but felt these rooms were perfect enough for us on the 1st floor with plenty of hanging space, tea & coffee, water, shampoo & shower gel daily provided. Our room was kept spotless by a daily room boy who even came in the evening to put anti mosquito plug in and close the curtains. The hotel also supplied pool towels.
We went for the all inclusive option which gave us varied buffet style meals of good quality local and international food and plenty of drinks to choose from all day and evening, the only down side was that they charged extra to have wine with dinner! The staff throughout the hotel are excellent, Mindika quietly and efficiently oversaw the food and beverage area. The staff who looked after us the most with the humor and caring attitude were Ajigh, Sriani, Prasanna, Tharaka and Udaya often had napkin tricks to amuse our 11yr old son. Or help him make his own hot chocolate. There are plenty of staff to assist all of whom are happy to help.
The sea is quite rough, great fun to jump the waves, not so great if you want to swim, however there is a lovely warm pool with a swim up bar. Plenty of areas to sit in the sun or shade around the pool or gardens and see the waves crashing, the hotel arrange 4 regular activities a day. Otherwise we could go inside to play ping pong or darts etc We did play tennis one day, which is extremely hot. In the evening they had varied light entertainment.
We did trip to Kandy which was excellent, a very long tiring day - very interesting seeing the countryside. We used a couple of Tuk Tuks from outside the hotel to take us into Kalutara town and for a day to go to Bentota, again lovely people who looked after us well.
The weather was lovely and hot, a couple of evenings we had a thunderstorm, but nothing but bright sunshine during the day.
The only complaint we had was you had to pay to us the wifi in the lobby and it is unavailable in the rooms. However, just across the road from the hotel is a small Bar / restaurant its free wifi!
