“A nice end of our holidays”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 19 June 2014

The hotel is great; the pictures prove it perfectly.
The food is excellent; the body mass index of many hotels guest can testify that ;-) The restaurant is very well managed - kudos to the manager Donald. Just the music in the restaurant - the same every day, and not my taste - needs to be changed.
Rooms are very clean, staff are very friendly.
We didn't mind the crows and the chipmonks at the pool. But we very much enjoyed the friendliness of the pool staff like Nishanta.
If you stay there for a longer time make sure to bring many books.

Room Tip: Sea view or lagoon view - doesn't really matter I think

Everything about this hotel is good although it does lacks some atmosphere the food and service are excellent and the rooms extremely clean and comfy. Be aware there is no shop on site and the nearest is a taxi ride away. The only down side to this hotel is the crows around the pool, constant noise and even dive bombing if you have any refreshments I hope that the management do something about this quickly They chase away the other wild life including birds and chip monks. The spa was fab I spent a very enjoyable 1.5 hours having a massage.

We spent 7 nights at the Avani from the 29th May to the 5th June 2014 and had one of our best holidays ever. Firstly the wonderful hotel is a welcome heaven after a long drive from the airport at the end of a typically Sri Lankan residence track, with nothing but water surrounding 75% of the hotel the only noise you have is from the birds flying among the palm trees and the only problem you have to worry about is the chipmunks drinking your water! It really is bliss, the facilities are fantastic, and the food is good and after visiting similar hotels in the area I do believe this is the best hotel value for money on the south/west coast of Sri Lanka.

Finally, to anybody that moans about the staff at this hotel...you are completely deluded, the quality of the staff at this hotel is made this trip for us, not one member of the staff could do enough for us. In particular the restaurant manager Donald and his team were fantastic along with the bar staff.

We stayed at the Avani Kalutara at the end of May for 9 nights to celebrate our wedding anniversary. From the moment we walked into the hotel we had an absolutely amazing time.

The room was wonderful with an amazing view. The staff were so friendly and kind I've never known anything like it. Our room was decorated with balloons for our anniversary when we arrived and we were treat to a romantic and very delicious meal on the lagoon on the night of our anniversary - best steak we have ever had!

We went on a 2-day excursion with Hayes and Jarvis which was fantastic and really gave us a feel for the island. We saw some amazing wildlife including baby elephants being fed and leopards at the Yala National Park which was so special.

The food at the hotel was beautiful and so very fresh with a wide choice to suit everyone's taste. We are big food lovers and both thoroughly enjoyed every meal we had at the Avani.

Relaxing by the pool was wonderful and the hotel staff soon knew our favourite spot and drinks order, which was lovely. It was such a relaxing holiday and really was like paradise.

I can't express enough how friendly and kind the staff were. We were made to feel so welcome we didn't want to leave.

We paid for a romantic meal on the beach towards the end of our stay and it was worth every penny (which wasn't much!)... excellent service, amazing food and my favourite wine which was an added bonus. The candle light decoration was particularly special!

We enjoyed massages at the spa on a number of occasions and highly recommend a visit - so relaxing and the products were beautiful (I purchased some for family members who have fallen in love with them!)

Overall 10 out of 10 and we are seriously considering going back for our anniversary next year.

We stayed in this beautiful hotel in May and absolutely loved it. From the moment you arrive you are met with hospitality and friendliness. They bought us a drink and cooling towels. We upgraded our room to ocean view and it didn't disappoint. It was very quiet due to the season and monsoon time but this only enhanced our stay. We loved the food although I can understand some people would not appreciate curry and spiced food with limited other dishes. What they served was very plentiful and very tasty. The staff can't do enough to assist. The pool area is lovely and the chipmunks keep you well entertained. Due to the time of year swimming in the ocean was a big no no which was a shame but quite understandable. We did the elephant orphanage trip via Fernando a seller on the beach and it didn't disappoint. However you do have to be quite firm and say no if you don't want to do the trips. Although there weren't many guests in the hotel it would have been nice if they had played some music in the bar areas during the evening. Sri Lanka is a beautiful country and the people just want to be friendly and make your stay everything it should be. Would love to go back again one day.

Room Tip: We had 2 ocean view rooms number 237 and 239 and they were lovely and quiet.

Me & my family stayed at avani resort for 5 nights.. We we're overwhelmed with the location, to wake up in the morning & look out to the Indian Ocean & the on the otherside kalu Ganga river. What a way to start the day.
The rooms are good but I would recommended the suite if you have any children with you.
The staff are very polite & very helpful, espically Lalit & manager Manoj. The local people make you feel very welcome always greet you with a smile. I would highly recommend Henry tuk tuk driver who is based outside the hotel if you wish to go around locally.
We will remember this place for a very long time & hopefully one day we will go back.
Thankyou Avani resort & Sri Lanka.

Called Serandib a decade ago then Kani Lanka and now Avani Kaluthara,
This was my fourth visit. It got better every time.
Located in a delta you get sea and the river in one go.beautiful beach.few water sports available at river side for an additional fee. Facilities for beach volleyball, and indoor games. You. Can even play a little cricket under the shades. Of coconut trees at the rear side without disturbing the other guests. But take your bat and balls
Food is good.Bar is well stocked. Little expensive in local standard. Take your stuff.. They will allow it at your night gettogether for a reasonable corkage fee

Stayed October 2013, travelled with friends
