“Breathtaking!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!”
Reviewed 21 January 2017 for a stay in January 2017

I believe the pictures are more than enough to explain how amazing this place is, But nevertheless i will add a few words to it :).. we were literally speechless when we got off our car, as we arrived. The view was breathtaking. Lush green surroundings, a river flowing down the mountain. it was such a beautiful site. the design of the villa perfect. every window you look through, gives you a whole new view. If your visiting kandy and you want to experience pure luxury, surrounded by a breathtaking view, aqua dunhinda villa is the place to be. the care takers are some of the most friendliest people that i have come across, very helpful and kind. I will be surely booking dunhinda villa, the next time i go down to srilanka.

“A Diamond in the rough”
Reviewed 9 January 2017 for a stay in January 2017

It was a "Diamond in the rough", we walked into this beautiful place on the 6th January and was greeted by three young men, it was definitely "love at first sight". We were surrounded by lush green mountains, breathtaking views and surrounded by the Mother Nature. The owner Prashan is a real conservationist, I was blown away with his careful introductions to preserve the environment and the place was significantly showing the true passion. Whichever way we look at, the views were blowing your mind. The sound of the Mahaweli river was soothing your inner peace.

All the furniture and fittings were absolutely marvellous and was carefully selected and gave us the best of luxuries. Beds were so comfortable and the cleanliness was at the highest standard.

The caretaker/Manager Sujith, was really approachable and attentive, the other staff Sanjeewa, Rukshan, Velu and Piyadasa were all really attentive and were always there at your request.

The food was an experience of a real Authentic Sri Lankan cuisine. It was no big spreads like a commercial Hotel, but it was just the right amount to fulfill your tastebuds with an amazing flavours of traditional Sri Lankan cooking. We stayed for six different meals and was always asked in advance what we would like to experience and the cook has done an over and above to make sure we are taking the full value. We really enjoyed the Fresh Polos Maluwa, kalupol maluwa, fresh green mallum from the garden, devilled potatoes, and wambotu beduma topped with yellow rice.

Velu and Sujith took us to real "Bush trekker" down to the Mahaweli River bank, it was a real experience through the lush green trees. Velu proudly showed us all of his hard work and explained all the important trees they have planted. We really enjoyed the environment and what they have created to preserve our land.

Overall if you are a nature loving person and want to have a quiet relaxation, this is the place to be, the future proposal to build a infinity pool will add more value to this place and will place a cherry on the cake.

Last but not least the staff asked me to plant a tree and were told that this is what they expect to do as an ongoing process suggested by the owner Prashan, I was blown away with the whole concept, where most part of the country won't even think about the conservation Prashan is doing his bit to protect our environment.

Final note, you won't be disappointed if you stay at Aqua Dunhinda, a place to experience the best of Mother Nature has to offer, the running water from the near by Mahaweli river and the noises from various birds are the only things that will disturb the tranquility of this environment. You will enjoy and relax your mind from your busy lives. It was an oasis in a desert, I wished I would have stayed there a bit longer.

This has been the most rewarded and memorable stay for me in Sri Lanka. The villa sits on a mountain so the view you get of the lush greenery all around you is surreal. We spent 3 nights here and wish we stayed for more. The villa is secluded from the noise of the city so you get to enjoy the quietness of nature but it only takes 10min ride to get to Kandy city. the staff were hands on and attended to our every need and the owner is genuine and has a great positive vibe. truly the place to be if you are looking for a place to disconnect and enjoy nature. definitely coming back again.

“Certainly a must stay at Gampola”
Reviewed 14 October 2016 for a stay in October 2016

It's our pleasure to be able to spend 3 nights at the Villa. This is an awesome place for retreat where one can get away from the bustling city life. The house is beautiful, spacious and has a beautiful view of the Mahaweli River.

In the morning, it's a nice walk down to the River for a bush walking experience with CV, the Gardener. He is an amazing guide who is always there to remove the tall grasses to path way for us. When we are back at the Villa, there will be cold towel awaiting for us at doorway to freshen ourselves. The staff there are all very polite and always ready to serve our needs.

In the afternoon, it's highly recommended to chilled by seating at the veranda overlooking the river while enjoying a cup of coffee.

The food serves at the Villa are generally of a high standards and authentic Sri Lankan way of cooking. Must try dishes fish cutlets, curry prawns, devil egg plants and pepper curry crab

All in all, I am glad to have choose to stay at Aqua Dunhinda Villa

“Relax in a beautiful and peaceful setting and feast on delicious, home-cooked meals””

This is a fantastic place! It's the Sri Lankan home you wish you had, complete with an attentive but unobtrusive staff. The house is beautiful, comfortable and well-appointed, the hilltop setting overlooking the river and surrounding green hills is stunning, and the meals, which are full of fresh fruit and vegetables, are delicious. The wraparound porch is the perfect spot for reading, relaxing, listening to the birds and just enjoying the scenery. The house is 1.5 km from the main road so it’s both secluded yet convenient. I loved running in the morning and then stretching on the yoga mats available in the house, on the patio of the bedroom overlooking the river, and then feasting on a hearty and healthful breakfast. It's a great spot from which to explore Kandy (a 40-minute drive) and the surrounding areas. We hired a driver for a day trip to Kandy and took half-day trips (to nearby temples, vegetable market and dam) with property manager Sujith in his tuk tuk. The property is even more beautiful than the photos, and the only downside is you won't want to leave. It is a really special place that made me feel I was having a genuine Sri Lankan experience, rather than a touristy one.

“Everything is amazing here”
Reviewed 5 July 2016 for a stay in June 2016

It's hard to pick a favorite thing about this place. The setting is incredible, with views of mountains and roaring river, up an isolated hill road far enough away from anybody else up, yet a close-enough walk or ride away. Birdsong greets you while being served coffee or tea on the veranda (and there are soaring eagles!) -- and you may need a light jacket, because it's refreshingly cool. When the doors all around are opened, the breeze flows through the house, giving it life.
It's a delightful walk down a garden slope, through the tea plants (you can see the workers come to pick the tea!) and spices like cinnamon and fruit trees like avocado and jackfruit that are used in the villa's menu, to reach the river out front, as well as the fresh bubbling spring on the property out back. The staff, manager Sujit and his Guy Friday, make sure you always have what you need, yet always stay out of the way.
Sujit also organizes day-tours like to the 3 temples around Kandy (totally worth seeing). It's also about 40 mins to get back to Kandy for a half-day (all that's needed). And he'll also take you the vegetable market and direct the cook to make your choices, Sri Lankan-style, for dinner: kale, beets, snake gourd, and all kinds of leaves for coconut salad. This is amazing for vegetarians - so rare to find this kind of opportunity while traveling.
This was the best place I stayed in Sri Lanka -- really a treat!

“Paradise found and a River runs through it ...”

I had the pleasure of visiting Aqua Dunhinda in December 2015.

The Villa is situated in an elevated terrain surrounded by a tea garden and fruit trees. The approach is an adventure as the road from the main road to the villa is through a path with a magnificent tree canopy where I encountered tree hopping monkeys during the day and a couple of lonely water buffalo at night.

The highlight of my stay was simply sitting on the river-facing-verandah and watching the river serenely ebb and flow at a far distance. I was equally amazed to see the power of the water at its highest force as it passed right past Aqua Dunhinda through a spectacular array of boulders and rocks. This created a whitish mist on some early mornings.

The gardener (Chithravellu or CV) doubles as a nature guide and a guided tour with him to the river at the base of the villa is a must. Best times for a hike are before 10am and after 3pm. Remember to bring your sunscreen, Sri Lanka after all is just 26km from the equator and the sun can be quite powerful, and make sure CV makes you a personalized hiking staff for your river walk.

The nights are very very quiet at the villa. If you are a star gazer or an amateur astronomer like me, all you have to do is turn your gaze upon the heavens above the villa to see Orion's Belt and many other constellations.

All in all, Aqua Dunhinda is place to loose yourself....
