We stayed only 1 night in this homestay but it was a good experience. The couple is very welcoming and speaks very well English. The room we stayed in (3 single bed ith attached bathroom) was spotless. There was even hot shower. Breakfast is included.

We stayed 2 nights in January 2011.
Its cheap (2000 Lkr) but don't expect a warm welcome nor a good night sleep. The beds are uncomfortable so we slept very lightly. Because of the natural surroundings you'll be waken up by different kinds of birds starting from 5 am and when they're done by 7am, you'll hear the husband and wife talk loudly in the house.
Kandy is a nice place though, but 1 to 1.5 day is enough in our opinion.

The Glen 58 is very reasonably priced accommodation with a great family. We found Camilla & Dean to be lovely helpful genuine people and the breakfast was very tasty. The rooms are basic but adequate- previous advice of bringing a top sheet is good (there isn't one). We also didn't find the afore mentioned curfew a problem. The last night of the perahera we were late but Dean was very understanding and apologetic when his tuk tuk driver friend let us down. It would be great if the rooms were updated slightly- a top sheet, less lumpy pillows and maybe a new shower curtain- but it still is great value. Also Aish (their daughter in law) was very helpful with the booking, by accident she had forgotten to charge us the perahera rates and the family are so honest, they stuck to the rates originally agreed. If you want to stay with lovely people in a clean spot with good food at a reasonable price, don't look any further.

Room Tip: Bring a top sheet if you need one to sleep.

This is a good value guesthouse: clean, friendly people, good room and bathroom, ...
The only negative thing is that we had to be home before 10 P.M. Kandy is one of the few lively towns in Sri Lanka where you can go out at night, so the hour was very strict.

'Mr and Mrs Deems treat people more like their personal guests than hotel guests. They are such lovely, friendly folk. The house is very clean, airy and comfortable. The rooms are fine and mosquito nets are provided and privacy is respected. Mr. Deems brought me tea in bed when my husband told him that I was not feeling well. How kind.

Do not go to this guest house if you expect to be able to tipsily swan in at all hours of the night. One of the charms is the tranquility of the location and the Deems' were deeply offended when one couple drunkenly argued late at night. If you would like to stay somewhere quiet, can respect a suggested curfew and would like to come to understand something of the culture of Sri Lanka, then this is the perfect place for you.

I didn't experience Kandy as a safe place for a solo woman traveler, it's important to be off the streets by dark if you don't want to be hassled. Meeting and staying with this lovely couple was the highlight of my trip to Kandy! not only are the rooms clean and the stay quiet, they are very popular now. Internet is available and breakfast but please be aware that this is a home and not a guest house.

I stayed 5 nights in total at the Glen 58. The owners are very nice and friendly. They offered breakfast, loundry service, left luggage, internetconnection and arranged an airport dropoff by their son. They have three very clean rooms, all with attached bathroom. The price is very good. For me it was also important that it was near the Indian visa renewal office. I felt welcome and will recommend it to everyone.
