Other than the nice view and its secluded location, we found Randholee to be a major let down. There is very little that's "luxurious" about it. While the entrance and lobby area are quite nice, the rooms are not so great. It's clear that the building/rooms are rather old and have not been updated in quite some time. This is most striking in the bathroom, which is dark and dingy, and even had mold growing in the shower area. It just didn't feel clean. Another issue that led to a sort of seedy feeling throughout the hotel was their failure to replace/renew paper products that were clearly old/dirty/water damaged. For instance, the "do not disturb" and "please make up room" signs hanging on the door nob were dingy, warped, and not clean looking. The same goes for the in-room dining/spa menus and the menus down by the restaurant. I know this isn't a big deal, but it felt gross having to touch these things that were clearly well-worn and dirty- it also takes away from the "luxury" theme. Simply replacing these items on a regular basis would go a long way.
Additionally, the furniture on the porch had holes in it and the safe was a disaster. We followed the directions on the safe, but an alarm went off anyhow. I've never seen that before. Usually if you mess up on a safe's directions, it beeps at you and gives you an error message- this one blasts a repetitive alarm that can be heard throughout most of the hotel. We called the front desk 3 times for help in shutting it off. Eventually, it turned off on its own (maybe 7 minutes later)- the staff never came to help. We know we weren't the only people to have problems w/this, as we heard at least two other safes go off while we were eating dinner.
As others have said- the food is pretty forgettable. The best part about eating is getting an outside table near the pool. They don't seem to set these up regularly though, as there was no outdoor seating our 2nd day- which is too bad b/c the main eating room gets crowded, loud, and warm.
So- in the end, I'm giving this an "average" rating (rather than "poor") b/c of it's location. The views are stunning, the pool is nice, and being up and away from Kandy is relaxing. Otherwise, however, this is not a luxurious place, nor is it worth the cost. We definitely stayed at nicer, cleaner places than this for half of the cost.
