“Unique relax in the middle of Sri Lankan hills”
Reviewed 17 January 2017 for a stay in January 2017

Staying at Sally and Jerry's Jungle Tide bungalow was unique and unforgettable experience for us. I haven' worry for anything, transport, food, what to see what not to be missed as they will tell you and help you to feel in perfect hands. Relaxing on the Patio and Garden with a cup of coffee or tea in your hand which Sally brought you make you feel very relaxed while listening and watching nature around you. It wasn't hot at all comparing to the city days and during the night I had really great sleep as no air condition is needed here. In the morning just open your door and stroll to the short walk or even go for a long one felling free to take on of their dogs as guides and keepers. That was great and I will remember walk to the village to a famous village Bakery which is a place you must see as hardly you will find anything similar in nowadays baking places. Take some Rupias with you and go buy your morning bread and you won't regret. This is just one of the walk you can have while staying here. Sally's place is close to Tea plantations as there are many in this area above city of Kandy so in a short distance you will see and feel like you are in the middle of Tea factory. In the middle of the day when hardly in the city you could be out on the sun you can jump into your private pool and make a perfect refresh till next adventure.
Stories, feelings and absolutely great service, food and level of hospitality Sally & Jerry shared with us is the biggest recommend to all of my friends who are visiting next Sri Lanka and who will have just as me an unforgettable stay at this place.

“Fantastic bungalow with super staff found high above Kandy”
Reviewed 19 April 2015 for a stay in April 2015

The journey to Jungletide is a whole adventure in itself, the pot holed road snaking high in the hills behind Kandy. The location a mixture of jungle and tea plantations. The owners organised a taxi for us from the airport in Negombo, and the housekeepers arranged a tuk tuk when we wanted to go into Kandy(. 30mins approx) and we got a local bus as well. As we only had 3 days with young children we really wanted to relax and acclimatise at Jungletide. The kids loved the swimming pool, the monkeys in the surrounding trees, and the birds. We especially loved the housekeeper Ranis amazing Sri Lankan cuisine. And cheap as well compared with other places we stayed. Rani also made different food to please our fussy children. Martin was really helpful in organising onward travel for us and can arrange excursions or walks with himself. The bedrooms have fans to keep cool at night, spacious and clean. We had the whole house to ourselves, otherwise a shared lounge area and eating. We had a great time at Jungletide.

“Fantastic peaceful location, brilliant walks and excellent hospitality.”
Reviewed 2 December 2014 for a stay in November 2014

Used beautifully designed Jungle Tide as a base for hiking, visits to Kandy attractions and safari park further afield. Recommend Tea museum and plantations on the road to Kandy as well as temple visits, botanical gardens and Kandy dancing in the city itself. Also visited great colonial era pubs and restaurants, in Kandy including Royal Bar, Queen's and Helga's Folly.

“Our only regret is not staying longer”

Originally we were to stay for two nights at Jungle Tide but due to some other commitments we stayed only one night.
Our only regret is not staying at least another night at this exceptional bungalow. This is an excellent, comforting and cool retreat. A great location for walking and trekking.
The rooms are modern, comfortable and clean. The bungalow has a well-equipped kitchen. Ideal place for families and friends.
The in-house keepers Martin and Rani were great, efficient and very friendly. Rani’s food was excellent in quality and taste.
We will definitely go back.

“Stylish country residence”
Reviewed 10 May 2012 for a stay in March 2012

We stayed 3 nights in this 4 bedroom bungalow which has bags of style and character. Set in an old tea estate in the hills outside of Kandy, it is tranquil, peaceful and perfect for chilling out. The rooms are spacious, modern and very clean; the bed soft and inviting. The housekeepers, Martin and his wife (Rani, I think) were excellent hosts. They kept the property spotless. The food was excellent and very reasonably priced. The upside of this property is its location in wonderful hill country with numerous glorious walks all around (Martin is happy to escort you if required). The downside is also its location. It is quite a trek from Kandy itself. The distance is probably not that far but the road to it is not good. A winding tarmaced road leads up into the hills and then a heavily rutted track continues further. Probably 30 to 40 minutes journey from central Kandy We had a driver so have little idea how much a tuk-tuk or taxi would cost. If you want easy access to Kandy this is not for you. If however you want some days to relax, or to enjoy the countryside (walking and bird watching are superb) then I couldn't recommend it higher. We were unlucky insofar as the swimming pool wasn't finished on our arrival (to be fair the owners had not claimed it definitely would be) but when completed it will add a further dimension to this wonderful property.

“This is a lovely house in an exceptional location”
Reviewed 11 April 2012 for a stay in March 2012

I stayed for a week at Jungle Tide with family and friends. The house is spacious, comfortable and very clean. The kitchen is well equipped, although we relied on the resident housekeepers to cook delicious Sri Lankan food for us. Their English is limited but adequate. The location of the house is exceptional - a 30 to 40 minute drive up a difficult road out of Kandy but well worth it when you get there. We enjoyed a couple of lovely walks from the house around the tea plantation. The local people were lovely and very friendly. The English owners could not have been more helpful in preparing us for our stay. For those who like some peace and quiet amidst beautiful scenery, this house is ideal. It will be even better once the new swimming pool is up and running.

“A stylish tranquil retreat”
Reviewed 29 March 2012 for a stay in February 2012

Jungle Tide nestles in the beautiful hills outside Kandy. The location is lovely – calm and peaceful, with long views to the tea-covered hills including the Knuckles range. Quite high up, so it is warm during the day but cool at night – a very equable climate – and dry when we were there in February. Jungle Tide itself is a very stylish modern single storey residence with a verandah running the length of the house. It is built in the style of a tea-planter’s bungalow with good sized elegant rooms all opening on to the verandah. The garden is lovely - and extensive with steps down to a swimming pool (nearing completion when we were there). It is a great place in its own right and as a base for trips around.

The verandah is an excellent place to relax, bird watch, and exchange the crack with Jerry and Sally, the owners, who are a great source of information about many Sri Lankan matters. They were extremely helpful with advice on plannung various excursions and visits in the locality and further afield, including finding a fantastic driver for us. Martin and Rani, the live-in housekeepers could not have been more friendly and helpful – and provided some delightful Sri Lankan food. (Also very good, more familiar, cooking from Jerry and Sally who were there at the same time as us.)

Kandy is a good centre with its superb location round the lake and attractions including the Temple of the Tooth and some good shops. Within easy reach are the Elephant Orphanage at Pinnewala, and the wonderful Botanical gardens at Perideniya which were so interesting and large that we had to visit twice.

As others have observed, the last 3 kilometers of the road from Kandy are very slow and bumpy, so it takes about 40 minutes from the city centre. Proper surfacing is promised imminently and this will make the trip much quicker – and more confortable!
