My colleague and I have been staying here for a week and plan on staying another two more, with excursions to other areas of SL. Clove Garden feels like a home away from home and we are so happy here. Our rooms are clean and tidy with all necessary amenities. Breakfast is delicious and I'm happy that they are able to cater to my dietary requirements (gluten free) with ease. It is a beautiful spot - nestled amongst the trees. A gorgeous place to get away from the hustle and bustle of Kandy.

Arrived to a warm welcome by the owner, his wife and staff. One waving from high up in a Clove tree, that made us smile. We were offered tea and cake both of which were complementary and a lovely welcoming to the area.

We booked this place by reading recommendations on Trip Advisor and Agoda website (there's a Agoda iPhone app FYI)

We went for a standard room (be careful to check the numbers of people staying in the room (if booking via website or app). I missed that and had to pay extra on arrival but best to cover it in advance of course). The room is basically furnished but perfectly decent and was very clean.

The place is in a valley with lovely well kept gardens. The garden is not huge but with all manor of things to look. It's not set on the side of a hill with miles of views but there are plenty of such places if you're heading east from Kandy.

We booked via the Agoda app as well. As well as being easy it was also cheaper than getting the room directly with them as we paid for an extra night and found this to be the case.

Both nights we stayed at the accommodation we ate dinner there. The first night, because it was easier as we'd just travelled directly from London, the second night because the food was fabulous the first! It was $7 pp for dinner so not the cheapest if you're on a budget but tbh by the time you've sat in tuk tuks to Kandy (200/250rp each way) and back you'd break even. That aside your $7 is worth it anyway so why bother moving!

Also everything is quoted in USD and when converted the rate wasn't very good. Don't get me wrong it was ok but not the actual rate. I would advise paying in USD but confirm if they will take it first as I'm unsure, or pay via the Agoda app or website to save all the currency conversion nonsense.

The owners and all the staff were all simply super. The owner and his wife both spoke great English, also one of the staff as well. The others not so well but a little, this made no odds because their smiles told us everything we needed to know about these super guys!!

One last thing to add, breakfast! Fantastic! And is included in the rate. Well in ours it was. Just check.

I may have missed something but all I can say is I'd recommend it highly.

We were a couple with 4 yr old and landed early morning hrs due to our odd timings of the flight. But we were warm.y welcomed. This was out first stay in srilanka and we were here just few hours to catch on sleep and proceed to nuwara. In whatever we saw the place is comfortable and whatever has been mentioned about breakfast is true. Lovely waffles, fruits.
I would have preferred to have someone around but they left us with the breakfast so to ask anything further we had to go searching. It would sit well with couples on honeymoon maybe. The owners ad warm and non interfering. Rooms are clean and spacious. Bathroom had lot of natural light and it fel good. They have lot of greenery and good amount of grounds for kids to run around and play. Overall a good experience.

We were at Clove Garden for only one night on a very rushed tour of Sri Lanka. The guesthouse is hidden along a narrow road leaving the noise of the city behind. The rooms were clean and we even had hot water. It has beautiful common areas. Breakfast of waffle and eggs is fantastic.

I really only had two minor complaints. First, when we checked in, we were not asked if we might be interested in having dinner there. When we inquired about it later, we were told they could not prepare it because it was too late and we should have let them know when we checked in. We instead had to walk to a coffee shop to get a bite. We were disappointed because we had read from the reviews how wonderful the food was and we really wanted to try it. Second, the internet did not work at the guest house and was quite spotty at the main house.

Other than that, the place was fantastic and I would come here again in a heart beat! We felt it was a fantastic value, too!

We stayed for two nights and really enjoyed it.
Finding Clove Garden is a bit difficult but calling Priyan will help any Tuktukdriver to find it.
The location is beautifully set in a nice garden just a short threewheeler (200 rupees) ride or a 30 min. walk away from busy Kandy.
Breakfast changes every day with offering pancakes, waffles or french toast as well as an egg and some fruits.
Staying here was a real pleasure!

My 4 friends and I stayed here for 3 nights, and it was a wonderful place to stay, with many positives and just a couple of quite minor negatives. Priyan, the owner, spoke almost perfect English, and was extremely helpful with everything - accommodation recommendations, information about the cricket match we were hoping to go to, local knowledge, storing our foods and drinks in the family's fridges as the rooms didn't have these, other information ... he was a wealth of knowledge. The other staff we met did not speak such good English, but were always smiling, friendly and helpful.

The meals here were also a highlight, some of the best meals I think we had in the country. The (included) breakfasts of either pancakes, waffles or french toast, with syrup or butter and jam; different fruits; and an egg - either poached, fried or omelette were both visually and gastronomically wonderful. The dinner we ate here was equally spectacular (I've included a picture). There was a choice of several curries, a cucumber based salad, rice, and brightly coloured papadums. There was so much we could have fed all our friends at home, and the food was so delicious they are disappointed we didn't! The only downside to these meals was that at every one there was a bottle of water for each of us - which was great - but when we got our bill at the end we noticed this cost us USD0.50 per bottle. A minimal cost - and not a big issue at all - but just very slightly disappointing that it wasn't made clear that this was costing us. Another minor issue with breakfast was no juice was served. However tea and coffee were virtually unlimited.

We ate in a beautiful dining room, there were several lovely common areas available for our use, which was a bonus for a group such as us. We had three rooms, I was in a 'family room'. It was wonderfully clean and very well presented, though the lay out was slightly weird. You walked into one bedroom, and had to go through this to get to a second, which had a couple of chairs in it also. Off this one was the bathroom. So my room-mate had to go through my room to get to the bathroom, and I had to go through his to get outside. Again, this was only a minor inconvenience, and the room was intended for a family and would be a better layout for parents and kids I think.

The place had wi-fi, but it was only available up at the owners' residence, not in the accommodation area we were in. This was only a short walk and there was a covered outdoor area we could sit to use it, but it was still a little inconvenient. I believe this may have been due to an issue with the ISP though and I think Priyan is looking at having it fixed.

We had a driver, so getting around was easy, but even without a driver, it was a 5 minute walk to a supermarket, and 10 minutes to a bigger supermarket and a couple of restaurants. You could even walk to the main part of Kandy (such as the lake) if you wished, however it would be quite a long walk in the heat (maybe 30-40 minutes at a guess). This was great considering the beautiful garden surrounds and serenity of the place as it's not right in the city. One downside was the Clove Garden had no accommodation for drivers, so our driver had to go and get separate accommodation. If you have a driver, considering their accommodation is important - we didn't know this when we booked this place in advance, and ended up paying some money towards our driver's accommodation as he was disappointed about this.

Overall, as mentioned, the positives far outweighed the negatives, and I recommend this as a beautiful place to stay with friendly owners and staff (and black labrador - Molly!) and great Sri Lankan food. Great value for money.

We only stayed one night at Clove Garden, but it was absolutely wonderful and we would have loved to have stayed longer.

We were greeted with smiles, coffee and cake (still warm!) and felt so relaxed that we decided to put off sight-seeing until the following day.

The location is great, a short tuk tuk ride from the city and it's sights and the setting is beautiful. We stayed in a new family room, which is spacious, clean and very comfortable.

Our two young children (aged three and two) were incredibly well looked after; we barely saw them all afternoon as they raced off to play.

As other reviewers have said, the food is amazing. We were treated to delicious curries (spicy for us and mild for the children) and waffles for breakfast. Chalani and Priyan were also very helpful in arranging our onward travel.

We highly recommend a stay at Clove Garden and hope to return ourselves one day.
