We were not expecting much from this room for the price we paid and were greeted with what we expected. When we booked the accomodation it said you had to email to confirm your stay 24 hours before, so we did. Upon arrival they didn't know we were coming, (this later proved to be because we had booked a room for 3 people, as they were cheaper than a room for two!?)
Anyway, the room was very old but but clean enough. We got extra towels and even an extra toilet roll upon arrival!! As they had no initial record of us staying with them they put us in a room at the top of the building, no plugs worked, wires hanging out, gaps between the roof and the walls but like I said you get what you pay for and we paid next to nothing! (Oh and you could hear the old guy in the room next to us snoring!)
The accomodation is close enough to the centre to walk.
Food at this place was 'interesting'. I ordered a cheese sandwich and chips, I don't even know what the chips were apart from something fried, there was definately no potato in them and they tasted like the oil had been used over and over but hey im no food connoisseur! The cheese sandwich also went to the wildlife! The rice was ok. The ketchup was simply water with some red colouring in I'm sure! It had however been made from fresh, I assume as it took an hour to get to us!
We had an early departure and left the bungalow at about 5.30 am. We walked down the stairs from the 'loft' to the main building to be greeted with a metal gate, PADLOCKED!!!!! The wife of the owner was up and heard us so she came to unlock it but I have no idea why it was locked and it definately should not be! Be warned that this is a massive health and safety risk!!!
Overall a cheap place to stay and if your after somewhere clean enough with NO extra frills then this is your place! Do however be aware of the lock that was preventing us from getting out!

Room Tip: Check out the prices - It was cheaper to book a room for three people than it was to book one for tw...

Traveled for 5 months through India, Nepal and Sri Lanka and can honestly say the proprietors of this hostel were amongst the kindest we came across on our entire trip.

Food was very tasty, the portions generous and the price very reasonable.

We visited this hostel on two occasions and the two rooms we stayed in were clean and showed no sign of damp, but damp is not an unusual phenomenon in a humid climate such as Kandy’s

While no WiFi is currently available we were able to use the family PC at a minimal charge, whenever we needed.

In response to previous reviews it should be said that this is budget accommodation not a 5 star resort. Don’t go to Asia if you feel inclined to complain at the sighting of a cockroach. Personally we didn’t encounter any cockroaches or bugs whatsoever during our stays at the hostel.

I would recommend this hostel wholeheartedly to anyone interested in a nicely situated and fairly priced room. I also recommend Mrs S’s home-made marmalade, which was out of this world.

Room Tip: For us the best rooms were on the top floor and have a lovely view.

I stayed at this place for one night. The room is cheap, about 11 USD. The room is spacious fairly clean and the bathroom is also clean. The problem is that the place is rather humid and sometimes causes some bedding to be smelly. The staffs are helpful. The place is not far from the lake and is within walking distance from most places in Kandy. It's not in the heart of the town though.

They showed us 3 different rooms until we decided to stay at the least smelly one, just for 2 nights. The bathroom was dirty, but we didn´t see cockroaches. The pillows smelled like mold. The food is ok, fair price. There was an "error" of 2 more zeros in the final bill ... ?

We spent only one night there but it was by the worst episode of our trip in Sri Lanka.
All kind of bugs (among which lots of huge cockroaches) were running around the room, the sheets were dirty, the bathroom was filled with ants, filthy and very gloomy and the manager could have been chosen to star in an horror movie as he seemed dishonnest (he rounded up to 3000 ruppees instead of 2950) and absolutely unwelcoming (he did not even leave his chair when we arrived to welcome us and just sent his wife presenting us the worst room - smelly and awfully gloomy - of the hotel that we turned down). The only positive thing was the kindness of the cleaning staff.
