Nice hotel , lovely setting, great food and staff in the restaurant , the variety offered is amazing . definately put on several pounds if you stay here longer! Good staff, nice bar with very chilled beers and attentive service staff throughout. i cant complain about this hotel at all , it works and delivers what it is supposed to. If going for evening meal try and reserve a table near the open pool area as it can get booked up quickly! Not far from town.

Room Tip: ask for a room away from main reception , as large tourist coaches approach and offload sometimes no...

We spent one night at the Mahaweli Reach, the welcome and check in process was smooth and efficient and the calm, cool and quiet of the lobby area were appreciated after a long drive. Our room was spacious, clean and well equipped - although the bedside master control for lights, air con etc... took a bit of working out. The setting of the hotel is lovely - shady and colourful garden, lovely pool, river views with mountains in the background; at night the trees are decorated/lit and it looks magical. The combination of being in this quiet and attractive location but having Kandy and all its attractions but also noise and bustle on the doorstep means you really do have the best of both worlds. The dinner buffet was good and overall service amongst the fastest and most efficient of our experience in Sri Lanka. The morning was however over whelmed by two weddings which started well before 09.00; this meant breakfast was shifted to the bar area which is also a main thoroughfare and so one had bride and retinue, wedding guests, newly arrived and departing hotel guests and breakfast eaters all needing to us it - which was all very awkward and muddled - wedding photos with strangers eating breakfast in the background?! The staff seemed to be a bit overwhelmed by the combination and volume of activity and the breakfast buffet too seemed to suffer - the kitchen was possibly over stretched and so food was cold and pastries stale [baked the day before]. Coffee was the worst we had tasted in two weeks of travelling across and up and down the island. We were perfectly happy with our stay and overall liked the hotel and it served its purpose well - but as noted by another reviewer - avoid the wedding season.

We had a lovely, quiet room in a modern hotel which sits alongside a beautiful stretch of the river. The food was very good, the service was excellent, there was a nice, modern swimming pool and to wake to watch hundreds, if not thousands of fruit bats in the sky along the opposite bank of the river was a marvel.
An excellent base from which to explore one of the most attractive cities in Sri Lanka. The hotel even has its own launch for a trip on the river.

Room Tip: There are some rooms overlooking the river itself which looked particularly attractive.

Mahaweli Reach is a very pretty quaint looking hotel located on the banks of the Mahaweli River. The rooms are huge by any standard and extremely comfortable. The hotel is constructed such that most rooms have a river view. I enjoyed doing my morning yoga exercises sitting in the little balcony outside the room. The pool looked lovely too but we didn't have time to experience it as we were busy sightseeing, etc.

The food was ok, above average and general service was a little slow, perhaps due to the hotel been full. The spa is nothing to write home about at the moment but the hotel is planning an overhaul of the spa facilities, so hopefully will be good in the near future.

Overall a good experience.

My wife and I spent 3 nights at the Mahaweli Reach hotel. Our room was spacious and clean, with a balcony that provided a view of the river and overlooked a large pond, the pool and open air dining area. The breakfast buffet had a good selection of Sri Lankan and western items. The service was good and they even provided a packed lunch in lieu of a breakfast we missed because of an overnight trip to Adam's Peak. The hotel is a little out of the Kandy city centre. It cost about 300-500 rupee, one-way into the city centre by tuk tuk, depending on your haggling skills and time of day. My only criticism of the hotel was that they hosted a couple of weddings during our stay and the music from the functions tended to carry out across the lawns and pond, straight into our room on the second floor. However, it was nothing that a pair of noise-cancelling headphones could not fix.
