“Excellent hotel in Kandy”
Reviewed 1 August 2013

Clove Villa is a charming boutique hotel in Kandy. Location is great, as the hotel is not in the middle of the hustling and bustling of Kandy city. It is cosy, comfortable, safe, clean, and staying in Clove Villa makes you feel "at home" thanks to Charlie and staff, who is very friendly and extremely service minded. Just make a request and Charlie and Co. will try their best to make it happen. However the pool during our stay was not very inviting. Nevertheless, we highly recommend Clove Villa, and again thank you for making our stay a VERY pleasant one.

Charlie and all the staff made our brief stay the most comfortable so far on our adventure through Sri Lanka. As a Uni student hailing from Melbourne, Charlie was kind enough to organise a cooking demonstration of the cheapest and most popular Sri Lankan dishes that I can now put to good use when I return home. Close enough to Kandy for any tourist to experience it's hustle and bustle, yet secluded in order to enjoy a quiet afternoon away from the chaos, Clove Villa was the perfect retreat while in Kandy. Many thanks guys!

From the minute we arrived to the time we left Charlie and the team extended a very warm welcome. Clove Villa is an oasis from the hustle and bustle of Kandy. The rooms are furnished in a modern contemporary style each one themed differently. The food was of a very high standard, prepared with the freshest of ingredients and plentiful. The real surprise was that Charlie would prepare local specialities if requested in advance, at breakfast. We were travelling as a family and this was a perfect location. Had the weather been warmer we would have used the outdoor pool, instead we made use of the indoor pool.....table.

Clove Villa is a perfect retreat from the hustle and bustle of Kandy. We were upgraded to the Ebony and Ivory room which was a nice surprise - it is very large and has all the mod cons you will need. Not bad about the decor but each to their own - comfort was not lacking !!

The first night we had Vegetable Curry which was very good. Perhaps it may be nice to have some background music to make it slightly more atmospheric. The second night we are off a la carte which was equally good.

Charlie was a very engaging host who is very keen to help make your stay pleasurable. Siri the tuk tuk driver down the road should also be mentioned as he was very helpful and always prompt for each journey we made. He also was in our opinion very reasonable and meant you didn't have to go through the rigmarole of negotiating with each driver for each journey.

My husband and I stayed in Clove Villa in the ebony and ivory room. The villa is beautifully designed, the room was spacious and modern and the staff were exceptional. The food is also notably very good.
We swam in the beautiful pool, played plenty of snooker and enjoyed the hospitality of Nawa and Charlie, two brilliant hospitality managers.
We liked that the villa is a little out of the city and was in a quiet area yet only a 5-10 min tuk tuk down to the lake.
We are very glad we stayed three nights!

We stayed here for 2 nights, 17th and 18th April at the beginning of our Sri Lankan holiday. After a long journey and lost bags, we arrived to this oasis of calm. The staff were all very helpful and although they do not yet have an alcohol licence they went out to buy us a couple of much needed cold beers! We ate at the hotel on the first night and the meal was fantastic.. beef curry and rice with lots of interesting and tasty side dishes cooked by Charlie who also served up a couple of good breakfasts. We travelled into the city centre easily by tuk tuk and on our second day went to the Botanic Gardens and the Temple of the Tooth. Our room was clean and comfortable and we loved the fish pond inside.. very cool and peaceful. Spent a couple of hours at the pool which was also very quiet and relaxing. We would thoroughly recomment this hotel to our friends.

We stayed here 26 Feb - 2 March 2013 for 4 nights. Lovely small boutique hotel on the outskirts of Kandy. Charlie, the restaurant manager was very friendly and made sure that all our needs were met. The food was very good and Charlie explained and helped us to sample the traditional Sri Lankan cuisine. Our room and hotel was tastefully decorated and spotlessly clean. We enjoyed the location because it was in a quieter area but inexpensive to get a tuk tuk into the city centre. We enjoyed a walk from the hotel to the reservoir which was quiet and away from the hustle and bustle of Kandy. We recommend Siri the local tuk tuk driver to be your driver and guide and Charlie can provide the contact information. Siri was magnificent and took us to Pinnwaela Elephant Orphanage, a Tea Factory, Kandy Botantical Gardens, University, the War Memorial Cemetry and various places in Kandy.
