“Elegant Boutique Hotel!”
Reviewed 11 September 2013

We stayed here on our first anniversary in Feb 2013. My spouse booked the room 'Ebony & Ivory' but when we reached, we found it was occupied and they promised 'Raspberry Dream' was as good as 'Ebony & Ivory', if not better. The room was beautifully done in shades of raspberry, not over the top but tasteful elegant decor. I was delighted!

Staff was ever smiling and food was good.

Highly recommend staying here! Beautiful rooms, courteous staff & personalized service. We had a truly memorable and very comfortable stay.

Room Tip: Stay in Raspberry Dream.

Our 3 night stay at Clove Villa was a complete dream. We arrived in Kandy by train from Colombo in the evening and were looking forward to a hot shower and good meal. Our transfer to the hotel was swift, however it further illustrated how far away from Kandy Central Lake Lodge is. This was not a big deal to us as we wanted a quiet retreat to come back to every night after seeing the sites We were warmly met by All the staff but of course having read the reviews we knew who Charlie was immediately. He's a fantastic guy and wish him all the best with his own ventures. Our first night coincided with a Poya day and as Lake Lodge is not licensed either we thought we stood more chance of a thirst quenching beer with our meal after a long day of travel at the Mahaweli Reach across the road. Incidentally we were offered to have an alcoholic beverage in a tea pot and teacup so as not to offend. We declined as we did not want to offend. Our first nights sleep was marred by brawling cats and not a reflection of the room, bed, or other guests. Breakfast was amazing every morning and both evening meals we ate we're superb and always ready much sooner than anticipated. If only they could have some ambient music and lighting in the dining area at meal times it would make it much warmer.

Room Tip: By the sounds of it all the rooms are lovely- ours was the Lavender Room.

This hotel offers a different experience than other hotels we have been to. It is a small hotel where you feel that the service is personal. Our twin room was well decorated and a bit small. The room lacked a safe but other aminities were available. The breakfast was cooked to order but with not much of choice.

We stayed 2 nights in the Lavender room, and after the departure of a family, were the only guests staying. We had barely put our bags down when we were asked what we wanted for supper. No menu, nothing, just what do you want and at what time. We were going to the Temple of the Tooth Relic so were unsure, so our driver said we would be back by 8. We got back around 7.45 and at 8.05 the phone was ringing dinner was ready. Waiter, charlie, literally stood over us while we ate and whisked plates away before the fork was on it. This was same for all meals. Room was OK, quite nice, but "superior" - to what? They don't have standard room so this was basic room. Only 1 bedside table and no comfy chair. TV where most channels were unobtainable. Bathroom was nice. Hotel is NOT 15 mins from town unless you have zero traffic. We were quite disappointed because it did look nice on the internet, but we thought we were given smallest room even though hotel was empty.

Clove Villa is a small hotel, with 7 rooms, with wonderful staff. The central room has a fish pond. The staff could not be more helpful. We had booked to see the Perahera (the procession) and we had to be in place by 6.30 pm, so the hotel provided a packed meal. The room was very clean and comfortable. The food was freshly cooked and tasted wonderful. They are not licensed to supply alcohol, but are happy if people bring it in to drink.

Room Tip: Actually I meant a swimming pool rather than a fitness centre. All rooms seem to be good.

We left the choice of hotel in Kandy for the perahera with our ground agent and to be honest, hadn't expected much. We were blown away by this little hotel. Such a surprise.
The hotel is quite new. There are 8 or so rooms. We stayed in the turquoise room downstairs. The hotel is modern, light, airy with funky touches.
The staff are faultless. Charlie sorted us out a perfect lunch at short notice and the full English breakfast the following morning was tasty and filling.
The whole place is spotless.
We would happily return.

Room Tip: All looked very good.
