Clove Villa is in a noisy suburb of Kandy; having been a private house it is an odd mixture of rooms grouped around a rather gaunt hall. The Dining Room is very soulless and did not lend itself to easy conversations with fellow guests, a large fish tank was the main attraction. Our room too was lacking character but it was clean and tidy. What the Clove Villa lacked was safes within the bedrooms, a license to sell alcohol, a minibar, insufficient clothes hangers, a bedside table. There was only one upright chair in the bedroom and we had the smallest veranda I have ever seen. The bathroom was very good. The food was not of a particularly high standard and breakfast was pretty ordinary. On the plus side there was Mr Charlie. Here was a man who earned his keep: he cooked the meals, he served at table, he fed the fish and, in all probability, he was the pool attendant. He never ceased to be cheerful. Without Mr Charlie Clove Villa would cease to function. This was a rather disappointing visit.

It was great to find a quiet and luxurious villa in Kandy away from the noice and trafiic of the city centre. It is only a short drive (about 10 mins) from the centre (either by tuk tuk or a car - you can't walk from the centre, too far from that). The rooms are very spacious, beautifully decorated with a massive luxurious bathroom with a great shower. The beds have fantastic mattress (not always the case in Sri Lanka) and great bedding. Everything is spotless clean.
Breakfast is great, a lot of fruit, eggs or sri lankan style curries (you have to order in advance). We also had dinner here and it was delicious. The host / manager Charlie is great and so helpful. Big thanks to him. I strongly recommend this place! You won't be dissapointed

We are a couple who stayed for two nights in the Raspberry Dreams room.

Pros:

- a fantastic host in Charlie and helpful staff in arranging transport and suggesting sights to see

- beautiful house with lots of light and indoor pond

- spacious and tastefully decorated room with balcony and great bathroom

- quiet location away from hustle and bustle of Kandy

- elegant interior space to have dinner and interact with other guests

Cons:

- none except having to deal with overcharging tuk tuk drivers due to location (not hotel's fault,
FYI a ride into Kandy should cost ~ 300 rupees)

Our family party of six adults and three young children spent four nights at Clove Villa in February 2014 whilst we were visiting sights in the Kandy area.
Although a 10-15 minute tuk-tuk ride from the centre of Kandy. Colve Villa is a haven of peace and tranquility just away from the hustle and bustle of the city.
All the staff were extremely pleasant and helpful and lovely with the children.
All meals were very good with the children's taste catered for. Two mornings we had early starts and the staff prepared us all packed breakfasts ready for our trips.
You need to be aware that you need to provide your own soft and alcoholic drinks but this is no real problem as there is an accessible fridge in which they can be stored.
Overall we would recommend this hotel.
Thanks Charlie, Nawal(?) and the rest of the staff.

We arrived mid-afternoon after driving from Nuwara Eliya and spending time at the Botanical Gardens and at the Temple of the Tooth. After seeing the traffic and noise in Kandy we were glad we made the decision to book this property located slightly out of town. It took us ten minutes from the Temple of the Tooth by car.

The staff is very friendly and enthusiastic and Charlie, the manager, met us and helped us check-in. This property is flawless. I believe there are seven rooms and we had one of the standard ones on the second floor. The room was large and well appointed and so was the bathroom, with nice amenities and a very good shower. We also had a chance to see one of the Deluxe Rooms, and they are very large and nicely decorated, as well as having a huge bathroom. Everything looks brand new. Air conditioning worked great and we had a small balcony, as well as a window facing the pool. Since this property has no liquor license, one of the bellman went to the supermarket to get us a few beers and we spent an hour or so relaxing by the pool in the backyard.

They prepared a very nice dinner for us and we made sure to tell them in advance what we wanted from the menu, so we didn't have to wait for a very long time. We had fun going across the street to a very large hotel where they were hosting a big traditional Kandyan wedding, this is also a nice place to have a cocktail as it faces the river. Breakfast the next morning was plentiful and we had fresh fruit, juices, eggs cooked to order, and offers for seconds. Overall, this was one of our best experiences in Sri Lanka, and a really nice place if your priority is getting a good night's sleep. We felt the price was fair and the service was outstanding. FYI, they do have accommodations for the drivers.

Kandy is a big and busy city, and being away from the madness was perfect for us. We recommend this property without any hesitation.

I stayed 2 nights here for my Kandy and surrounding area visit.

The hotel is very well designed with nice decoration.

Our room is Green Heaven, very well equipped and comfortable.

Friendly and helpful staff (and the boss). I left clothes in the room, the boss sent it to Nuwara Eliya.

Strongly recommended.
