Place is a bit old and smelly but there are good bargains to be found if you are prepared for some haggling!

We went with our guide on a tour around Kandy. This is a must if you are visiting as it gives a great insight into the city and bustle of everyday life by its inhabitants. We went into. A supermarket and bought cashews, we also went around the market stalls. A definable must, although you should be careful what you buy and you must always barter, the price starts off very high because you are a tourist, however, you can get it down almost 50% with a little patience. On some items you are still probably overpaying but it's fun.

In the heart of Kandy and is full of shops and people. Contains of a lot of items including food stuff, souvenirs etc. This seems the busiest place in Kandy..

Note to future travellers: I would NOT recommend buying any souvenier-type stuff in Kandy, IF you plan to visit Colombo during your trip. Stuff is WAY CHEAPER in Colombo's govt. shops than in Kandy. Some examples: The batik saree cost SL 7000 in Kandy, costs SL3500 in Colombo. An Elephant made with coconut shells cost SL1200 in Kandy but only 500SL in Colombo!!!

This was so so busy, with so many stalls and people crammed in everywhere. It can be a bit daunting but well worth a visit just for the buzz of the place if nothing else.
