We enjoyed our stay at the guesthouse. We felt secure and it was very clean and friendly. It was within walking distance to the main part of Kandy, close to restaurants and the Temple of the Tooth (about 20mins walk). Whilst we did not dine at the guesthouse, food was available at around 600Rs, the food looked very appetising. The hosts were attentive and had excellent English and provided us with lots of advice about what to see and do in Kandy. The hosts are lawyers and you will find the gate has a sign for their law firm, it may confuse you but it is certainly a guesthouse too. We purchased tickets to the Kandyan Dancers through the guesthouse at 500Rs, well worth it (there was no mark up on ticket price).

We stayed for one night at 26 D.

26 D is a beautiful home. We received a warm welcome complete with local tea and snacks. Jagath, the host, and his wife were very welcoming and accommodating. Jagath was great for recommending local sites and restaurants.

The common area is beautiful with a very nice garden. The rooms are comfortable and come with mosquito nets.

Breakfast was offered but the high price did not justify the basic offerings.

Stayed here just for one night but the family made us feel really welcome. Tea and sweets or arrival which was lovely after a long bus ride! Comfortable room (had one with ensuite which was nice and not much more in cost). Good location, not far from the lake and the family were happy to give us advice on what to do and where to eat. Would reccommend.

I had an excellent time staying here- comfortable room and was well looked after ( good advice and tea!) It is well located - right by the lake and just a short walk to town. The house is clean and full of plants. The only downside was that the two rooms on the top floor are separated by a wall that doesn't quite reach the ceiling- so you can hear every word of your neighbours' conversations.

Room Tip: Avoid the rooms on the top floor if possible

The guesthouse is an extension of the family home but you still get the privacy of staying in a hotel.

We were greeted with tea and sweets which was very nice, and immediately made to feel welcome.

We had a room with a shared bathroom which was spotless and really comfortable. The bathroom is just down the hall and was also spotless...it was just a cold shower, but it is that hot in Kandy this was fine.

We ate there one night and had the No 26 special, which was a traditional Sri Lankan rice and curry. The food was delicious and felt more like a top end restaurant. Lots of curry dishes, and fruit and desserts to follow. Breakfast was equally nice.

It is located on the street next to Hotel Suisse, 30 secs from the lake and about 15mins walk from the main town. If you need to take a tuk tuk to the station don't pay more than 200, even this might be too much!

The owner and his wife were warm and friendly and genuinely keen to make sure you have a great stay with them.

My partner and I stayed here for three nights in February as part of a two week holiday. The guest house is well hidden up a small road just before Hotel Suisse and the entrance is perhaps not quite what some would expect (metal padlocked door!). That said, behind the gate is a lovely house, extremely clean with lovely homely rooms. Rooms have mosquito nets, decent showers and plenty of space.

The family were incredibly friendly and couldn't do enough for us. On one occasion, the owner arranged a tuk tuk to take us to Sigiriya for the day which was far more reliable than some of the offers we received around the lake!

The breakfast was lovely and plentiful - made by hand and perfect for a long day exploring Kandy and the surrounding areas.

Location wise, its a stones throw from the lake and a short walk to the centre of Kandy, Temple of the Tooth etc.

I'd certainly return and recommend this guest house to anyone keen for a friendly and hospitable stay!

No: 26 D sits up a not so pleasant looking lane. But once inside you'll forget about that. Jagath and his wife are both very friendly and helpfu hosts. Our room, though a bit small, was adequate and spotlessly clean. The pleasant rooftop patio was another bonus. It's a 2 minute walk to Lake Kandy and about 15 minutes to the town centre.
