Because we paid for our standard room in advance, whilst staying at Galle Face in Colombo (same group), we were upgraded to a suite for our single night in this fabulous hotel. That might, however, have been because there was a noisy wedding in the ballroom until the small hours and the suite was far enough away to deaden the sound. The beds were the most comfortable we slept on in Sri Lanka and we loved the location, the old-fashioned charm of the hotel and the slightly faded opulence of the place. We walked from the hotel to the Temple of the Sacred Tooth in the evening around the lake - best time to visit after dark. The breakfast was awful - the hot food was cold, the fruit warm and busy with fruitflies, the coffee undrinkable. We tracked down a single internet machine but we were both bitten to bits by midges which were as persistent as the reception staff trying to get our payment for the pleasure. It is a great shame because this hotel could, again, be the place to stay in Kandy. It seems they concentrate too much on weddings for their income at the expense of personal attention to paying overnight guests. That said, we would not have missed it. It's rare to stay in such a beautiful heritage site in such a stunning location next to the lake and the centre of Kandy. Go there but eat out. You won't regret it.

Room Tip: The suites are off a separate hallway with its own door to the corridor - great for privacy and peac...

We stayed two nights in the Hotel Suisse, in Kandy, during a tour of Sri Lanka. The hotel has plenty of old world charm, while still possessing large comfortable rooms and modern bathrooms. The hotel is conveniently located on the lake 15 minutes walk from downtown Kandy and the Sacred Tooth Relic Temple. We had breakfast in the dinning room, the quality and variety of food was very good. The beds were comfortable and the room had both a/c and a ceiling fan. Wifi was free and we got good reception in our room. The hotel had large pool in the grounds. The extensive collection of photographs and paintings from the 30’s and 40’s give an interesting insight into colonial Ceylon.

I stayed here for 1 night only passing through. The hotel is a fantastic old building close to lake and a short walk to town. I booked new room ok size all up to date as i would expect for the price $170.00 a night, I understand that they have some older rooms that have not been refurbed so I can not commet on them. The night i was staying there was a national holiday so all bars etc were closed, I had no problem getting a drink on room service and a private bar was opend up for guests on the top floor a god send as i like to have a G and T. Breakfast was good in grand old dianing room also great room service.

The only little down side its a little tyred parts of hotel and no double glazing in new rooms.

Room Tip: Go for a new room with balcony over looking lake.

Yet another hotel in my home town. I have taken my wedding in this hotel. So no doubt to recommend for a function, but also for a good satisfying stay. Requested few changes which was disaapointing to an occasion. Thus staff paid full attention to fullfill the enviornmental isseus for the occasion.

Key difference is this hotel preserves the colonial style through out. Everyone admires that. Excellent food and the friendly staff make your stay much pleasent.

You can have a good walk around the lake and visit sacred temple for a good relaxed time.

Amazing hotel as always in Sri Lanka helpful staff. The buffet dinner was lovely as was breakfast. Ht the wifi does cost so beware! Not much else to say but I do feel wifi should be complimentary in hotels of this standard. The pool was clean and well maintained as well.
