My partner and I stayed at Queen's Hotel for 4 nights. We chose this place because it was centrally located and we were staying during the lead up to the Esala Perahera. Due to the festival prices were very high, but disappointingly service was average.
Quality of food was very poor. My partner ordered a pork chop one night which tasted of fish due to being cooked in the same oil! If you stay at Queen's Hotel make sure you just pay for the room and eat elsewhere when you can. The cockroach we saw on the dining room floor didn't help our confidence!
On a positive note the hotel is in the centre of town, has a lovely pool and an excellent view of the temple and the parade during the festival. Just be prepared to be woken at 5am by the monks chanting, the traffic noise (not just during the festival) and the drumming water pipes!
Unless you are staying during the big festival and don't wish to battle crowds, I would look for accommodation elsewhere.More
