We got a chance to stay at Queen's Hotel,Kandy last December-2012 during our vacation in Sri Lanka. It is a piece of antique hotel started from British Colonial Rule but still maintaining old heritage of the hotel. It is a great place to stay to visit Sri Dalada Maligawa and we attended morning Pooja at 5.30 am.
Buffet breakfast had a good selection of items and most of the guests are regular visitors. And specially valet parking is most helpful for self driving people like us.

Room Tip: Select a room of Lake View at 2nd floor

Queens Hotel manages to maintain an aura of old colonial grandeur, but the fact that it's in a noisy, bustling, touristy area undermines this positive.

Even at night, it's noisy! The temple next door is noisy. And since it's THE temple (Tooth Temple), it's busy from sunup to sundown. And before sunup and after sundown, the people who work in the temple are setting up/tearing down. Even on the top floor, on the side (not the front, but also not the back), it was still noisy enough to prevent sleep.

The rooms are large and I THINK they were clean, but the natural lighting was bad (except in the bathoom, which was INCREDIBLY noisy) and the provided lighting was dim like mood lighting and you could barely see what was in the room.

The lobby was nice and airy and inviting. The bar was very nice and kept up the colonial Long Bar atmosphere of the hotel.

The staff was very nice and helpful, and went out of their way to help you.

Overall, very nice in a very touristy location (if that what you want), but you do sacrifice peace and quiet.

The hotel is in the best location in Kandy and as soon as you walk through the doors the place is stunning! The old colonial style is fantastic, the rooms are basic but have everything you need and were very comfortable. The bar and swimming pool were very good for relaxing and the buffet breakfast had fantastic choice.
The rooms facing the temple are noisy, with prayers being called at 6am and then the horns start on the road, but this is only a minor negative.
This hotel is a must, even if you're not staying here you should visit as the decor is amazing.

This hotel definitely has character and history, but it has seen better days.

The family room was large with beds in 2 different rooms. The beds were large and fairly comfortable. The bathroom was large, but the hot water supply was variable.

It is worth noting that our suitcase was placed by staff beside the bathroom, and water leaked from the bathroom shower onto the bag.

The room was very as we could hear chanting from the Temple of the Tooth and vehicles from the road.

Breakfast was disappointing.

Worth considering for its history and character, and it could not be much closer to Kandy's major sights.

This must be everyones idea of an original Colonial Hotel. Only stayed one night but would recommend the hotel purely based on location.
The hotel itself was clean, staff were pleasant, helpfull and reception efficient.
Rooms had very high ceilings and wooden floors, stunning interior.
One unique experience was being woken in the early hours by the Buddhist Monks early morning chanting!
