This was truly a fantastic experience. Original colonial style hotel, preserving the old style, but fully modern. The rooms are very British, old-fashioned and a bit run-Down (especially the plumbing). But the atmosphere fully makes up for this. Very good restaurant, both for dinner and breakfast. Wonderful bar for a quiet pre-dinner drink.
Very central in Kandy.

In a tour of Sri Lanka we used Queen's Hotel for a short two days stay in Kandy and we couldn't be more happy with our choice.
The location is just perfect, as you have the main attractions - the lake and the temple - right across the street.
The colorful local market - with probably the best prices for your Sri Lanka shopping - is also just at a few minutes walk distance.
There are good restaurants and nice bakeries nearby, but for the evening I believe the Hotel own premises are a very good option as everything arouind trend to close early.
The Hotel by its own self its worth the stay, as you are driven back some decades to a truly colonial ambiance although you'll have all the present standard Hotel amenities at your disposal.

If you want to check this place out, do yourself a favor and go into the lobby, or have a drink at the bar. Don't bother staying. It took about 5 minutes to walk up three flights of stairs to my room, which did not have wifi. There was a bathtub that required a 1-meter step up to get into, only to find out that it's impossible to take a bath, only can take a shower. Ancient, part of the charm, I suppose. But if you bother to leave a bathtub in the room, let me take a bath. Rooms are nothing special, and for double the price of everywhere else in Kandy, I would never recommend this place. Yeah, it's cool to say you stayed where QE2 stayed, but that is about the extent of the charm here. Go to the lobby, take some photos of the staircase, old elevator. And leave. BTW, wifi code for the lobby is khc.1938

I had an overall pleasant stay with my family at Queens hotel. The best part is the location - near hustle and bustle - shopping and KFC at walking distance. Rooms are very comfortable. i can recommend this hotel to anyone who wants to be in city center with all the activities around.

Room Tip: Take balcony with Kandy lake view

Me and my wife stayed at Queens hotel for one night on our round trip to Sri Lanka i feb. 2014.
The good thing is that the hotel has a very cetral location in Kandy. But the hotel certaly has seen better days. The sevice war very very slow, the rooms not so good. Anoteher nice thing is the swimingpool.
