We were aware that the Queens Hotel was a sister hotel to the Galle Face Hotel, Colombo so mistakenly expected the same quality of hotel. How wrong we were!
The room was colonial in style but needed a good clean and redecoration. We were overwhelmed with the smell of moths balls which brought on asthmatic symptoms in my partner which I haven't seen before.
From the bathroom in our room to the toilets at the bar, amenities all needed a good overhaul. Can't stress how dissapointing this was.
The hotel cannot be blamed for the noise of the crows and traffic which keep you awake all night, however it was exceptionally bad. Even the breakfast was poor!
The only positive statement we can make was that the staff were friendly and helpful and trying their best to help you have a pleasant stay.

Queen's Hotel has an old world charm and a great location-- right opposite the Lake and the Tooth Temple.
Rooms are basic--wooden floors, high ceilings-- basic amenities. The real downer is the water heating-- you'll run out of warm water in the middle of your shower and you don't really expect that when you are paying 75 USD for a room.
The travel desk provides cars for your travels/tours within Lanka-- a trifle expensive-- but the cars are good.
Break fast is also basic.
All in all, choose it for the location, there's not much else that will blow you away.

A victorian style hotel, which has not changed much in over 40 years. The rooms have been updated, some had tiles but a few were cracked, but most rooms we stayed in had lovely teak wood flooring and tall wooden doors.
The walls are very soundproof but the rooms opening onto the main road are noisy at night. This affected our sleep quality. There is a fan and Tv and an empty but working fridge in each room. The breakfast is quite good but not of five star quality. Bedding is clean and the hotel staff is extremely polite. The lift had an issue while we were there and they couldn't find our booking as we had done it so long ago, but they soon resolved it.
Very good quality efficien staff who are obliging and cordial at all times. They take a long time to make up the rooms. Bathrooms were clean. Building is old but there has been updating of rooms and bathrooms when it has been required, it seems.

I would not recommend it for a long stay as the rooms were not that spacious, but for a short family stay it was fine. Some rooms had a double bed and some had two singles, although we had requested all doubles.

Across the street from the Temple of the tooth and from Pizza Hut and the main lake in Kandy, so extremely convenient to walk to all the places and catch transport in Kandy.

We stayed for 2 nights over Christmas time. Initial impressions of the hotel from its public areas are good, however our room was not. It was damp, an electrical fitting was falling out of the socket, the shower did not work properly, there was a constant dripping noise outside our window, no internet facility working, poor breakfast. We paid a high Christmas rate with a compulsory meal - it was overpriced. The standard of the room was more 1 star. The positives of the hotel were the central location and outdoor swimming pool.

We arrived in Kandy without a place to stay and were quickly offered rooms at this hotel which were very large and really nice.My husband has a health problem which means he has to carry medication with him which must be refridgerated. We exlained this to the receptionist and within five minutes two staff arrived with a mini bar fridge which he could put his medication in.We had great service from a lovely young member of staff called JEEWAN KUMARA.He managed to get together some food for us very late well after the kitchen had closed. He also took my daughter to look at the rooms where weddings were being held the next day and on the day of the weddings took her right up to one the the brides and grooms and she had her photograph taken with them. She was shaking like a leaf when she came back but absolutely thrilled!!.We had breakfast there which was fine but no other meals. We would be happy to stay here again and a special thankyou to Jeewan for looking after us during our stay.

My husband and I arrived late at the Queens hotel without a reservation. They offered to show us all the available rooms, and personally walked us around the hotel examining each room until we found the perfect one. This is an ideal and very central location in Kandy; great for exploring and for its proximity to the Sacred Tooth Temple. The only downside is we stayed on the side of the hotel facing the temple which means we were awoken at 4AM each morning by the prayer call. We had ear plugs from the airplane which became very useful. Also the traffic in the morning is quite loud so if you’re a light sleeper or love to sleep in I would find a place away from the temple and away from the road. The complimentary hotel breakfast is great and a fun mix of east and west. We had curry and french toast each morning! I would highly recommend this hotel to all kinds of travellers!

The staff and the location were absolutely perfect. There is a travel/tours desk just inside the hotel who helped arrange all of our excursions and travel. Their contact details should you want to book in advance are: Royce Tours/www.roycetours.com/+94815625713/roycetours@hotmail.com. Their pricing was extremely competitive and they customized two tour packages for us. They even gave us options of places we could visit on the way to the airport to really maximize our visit.

The two things going for this place are 1) its central location and 2) the beautiful old building. Kandy in itself is nothing too great and can easily be seen in a day, or single afternoon. I would recommend this place to people who want a central location to cut down on walking and using tuk-tuks in the smog thick streets of Kandy, however don't hold big expectations.
