Clean hotel in the heart of the city. We had two spacious rooms overlooking Kandy lake and the view was beautiful. Very close to Buddha Tooth relic temple and the Kandy dance performance theatre.

Other than location, everything else was forgettable. Its old rooms, rickety lifts, really old bathrooms and really sad lobby need a complete renovation. This is at best a one night stop over than a hotel to stay and enjoy. I would spend extra few dollars to stay in Citadel Kandy. It’s a much better hotel.

Good hotel in a nice location. About 10 minute walk down to the Temple of the Tooth. Our room was a decent size and bathroom was too, great to have a bath also. Room has a balcony and a nice view over Kandy lake, but take note of the ‘beware of the monkeys’ sign as they will pop in if door left open! Free wifi in the bar/pool area. Buffet dinner available, reasonable food, but not the best food we’d eaten in Sri Lanka.

We were upgraded to a suite which was.good as the room was big and had good view. However, the bathroom was not very safe as they used an old mat in the tub which actually made it more slippery. Water from the shower was not hot enough, aircond was not cool enough and we basically prefered the ceiling fan instead. Although rooms had good view, we couldnt really enjoy it as monkeys were always around and we had to keep the balcony door shut alltime. Breakfast was very basic but the environment was good..They do have swimming pool but i hardly saw anyone using it. Not suitable for young kids. Kandy city is abt 5 to 10 min ride by 3 wheelers and they charge about 250 to 300 SL rupees. The Relic tooth temple is walking distance. walking to the city will roughly take about 20 min. Staff were very friendly and no comments on that. They try to help whenever possible. Since the tv only had local channels, I requested to rent a dvd and they arranged for me. They made my day. Generally I enjoyed my stay with husband and a toddler.

If you don't mind the company of monkeys for breakfast and on the balcony of your room then this is the Hotel in Kandy. The sight of one of the chefs from the kitchen furnishing an air rifle to scare away the monkeys was a sight to behold! The hotel has impressive views over the lake and is a short walk to the old style theatre where you can see an excellent performance of traditional Sril Lankan dances for 500Rp. You will need transport into the main streets of Kandy and to visit the temple. Food was okay, but I would recommend eating at the Slight Chilled Pub just meters from the hotel.

The hotel had a lot of potential but a number of things let it down with overall impression of slightly run down place.

On the good side the room was very large and clean with free water, tea and coffee, the bed was very comfy. The view over Kandy was very impressive and the pool area was also pleasant. I had a treatment in a spa and that was good value.

The food was not great both at breakfast and in the evenings where the meal was quite expensive. The bar was expensive and impersonal - I would suggest going to the English bar at the bottom of the hill which looks quite grubby from the outside but is much better inside (and a lot cheaper!). As said in other reviews the monkeys are a bit of a nuisance.
