I booked the Sharon Inn in panic because we were heading to Kandy at beginning of Esala Perahera and options were disappearing while prices were rising. It was further up the hill than I'd expected but we walked in and out of Kandy all the time so it was doable (BTW we're in our 50's)
We had a nice room with a lovely balcony and view. We enjoyed dinner - it was our first stop in Sri Lanka so we had nothing to compare it to at that stage but the food certainly compared more than favourably with a lot of places we stayed afterwards. It was very popular with non residents - most of whom had been sent on recommendation of their own hosts.
The down side was probably just the price. Even allowing for the festival, we seemed to be paying way over the odds. There were plenty of small guest houses on the road up to the Inn - if you are just looking for somewhere to rest your head then maybe reconsider.
But apart from the cost - (and the bit of a climb!!!) - it is a good guest houseMore
