The owner, his wife and the staff couldn't have been more helpful.
Our first room was on the construction site side and was noisy early in the morning but we changed to a much better room overlooking the garden and much quieter!
We ate here and the food was excellent. Home cooked rice and curry followed by buffalo curd and kithul treacle....bliss!
The owners speak excellent English and are very knowledgeable about all things Sri Lankan

Room Tip: While the construction work is ongoing make sure you get a room on the 'quiet' side

This place is recommended in the lonely and has good reviews however it didnt meet our expectations. The room was ok, but the owners not very friendly and the only people who work there are boys from 12 years old who are making you nervous.

Even a bit more expensive than the average in Sri Lanka (5500 LKR per room) this is worth it. We stayed 2 nights and enjoyed it a lot. Convenient location, nice room, friendly staff. They speak very good English. We had the room facing the garden and it was calm and quiet even there is a construction site next to the guest house. Very good breakfast. The guest house did our laundry in one day for a very reasonable price. I can recommend this location for sure.

Room Tip: choose the rooms facing to the garden

First of all, we received a poor welcome compared to typical Sri Lankan high standard of welcome. The room on the 3rd floor was pokey, the window didn't close, and the major construction next door kept us awake all night (not the owner's fault). Their garden too was messy, with construction equipment strewn all over. Further to the left lay an eerie not worked-on rubbish-strewn building site. We would suggest moving further up the hill to one of the many guest houses for less money. On the plus side, you will probably find the best tuk-tuk driver who is usually parked right outside the hotel. Lal's grandfather was Scottish, and he speaks good English and he'll take you around the city for a reasonable price and with a smile.

Room Tip: There are better guest houses further up the hill.

We stayed 2 nights in Kandy and enjoyed our stay at Freedom Lodge. It is just up a short hill from Kandy Lake and walking distance into the main centre. The room we had was very nice as we took a second floor room with balcony. However as it was front facing to the road, it is noisy with the construction and vehicles (the windows do not protect from the noise so if you are a light sleeper, ask for a room away from the road.

If you get a chance, take the dinner here at the guest house. It is pricey by Sri lankan standards but the food is excellent. We started with soup, had chicken curry with 5 other vegetable curry dishes and fried rice and finished off with ice cream and buffalo curd with honey so make sure you save room to eat all the yummy food.

Breakfast is also good but watch out for the chillies in the omelette.

Room Tip: Do not choose 201 if you are sensitive to noise at night. Also, they do not service the room every d...

This is a wonderful family run guesthouse that is centrally located. The family is enormously helpful and attentive. The rooms are a bit basic, but they do the job and the outdoors common breakfast area more than makes up for it.

If you stay here and need a driver, please ask for Ratna. We hired him for four days and he was prompt, friendly, reliable, and hellpful with finding accommodation. I highly recommend him.

We stayed here for three night when we arrived in sri lanka, great start to the holiday and probably the best food we ate whilst on holiday. Lovely friendly hosts and big spacious, clean rooms. The owners had also arranged for a taxi to pick us up at the airport which helped after a long flight.
