“Great value, clean rooms, excellent staff”
Reviewed 27 August 2013

As it was my second stay here, i highly recommed this hotel - rooms are spaceous, clean, with a/c, breakfast is good and included in room price. You can use swimming pool and the chef in restaurant knows whats he doing. Wifi works well in restaurant and sometines in rooms. The hotel owner, Kanchana, offers you trips around Kandy for good price and makes sure your stay is nice relaxing holidays. Staff is very friendly, helpful, English speaking. When going on tuk tuk or car trips, ask for Fazeel or Siraj, both speak good English and are practised drivers and travel guides.

We stayed for two nights in August 2013. Friendly and helpful staff, great views from the hotel terrace and good free breakfast included. The dinner options were also great value (including a free cookery lesson watching our curries being cooked on the terrace!) and free wifi. Good budget hotel, would recommend.

Fantastic 4 nights at Kandy View, great staff, very friendly and professional.

The breakfast was fantastic with a combination of sri lankan and western dishes and freshly made omlettes.

The deluxe rooms were great with amazing views of the rlling hills and jungle nearby.

Te organised trip to Sigiyira and Dambulla and city tours were wonderful, made even better with our fantastic driver and guide Fazeel.

I strongly recommend a stay at Kandy view, thabks for a god one.

Room Tip: Go for the deluxe rooms for quality and views. It costs 200Rp in a tuk tuk to Kandy town (not far...

We arrived here based on a previous hostel's recommendation. Since we were trying to travel low budget, we asked to see the cheapest rooms, which were very dirty and bad. The location of the hotel is quite far out of the city (15 min walk, so fine without luggage but not with) so we were a bit forced to go for the more expensive one.

The one we got in the end was very nice though, a corner room with 180 degree window with view on Kandy and the hills, spacious and light. Only problem was that there was only hot water for a minute or so (after turning on the boiler), while they told us there was hot water.

You can only get a room with breakfast included and they do not negotiate on the prices. Breakfast was a buffet on the open air terrace with a nice view, and good choice of international and Sri Lankan foods.

The hotel seems OK with regard to its price and the photos published at booking.com. So, we decided to stay there during our trip. When we arrived, the hotel stuff showed us 2 rooms. It was really hard to decide which one to take. Both rooms had no air conditioning (despite the declaration in the web site offer) and there was rot in the bathrooms. We had a tough conversation with the stuff and we finally got the room with AC but still there was a problem with rot. We were glad having our own pillows with us because the odour of the bedclothes was repulsive. The room was far away from the pictures presented at booking.com. We were attended by 2 girls which were laughing at us when talking in their local language. It wasn't nice. We wondered what was so funny and why they didn't want to share it with us (the stuff knew English pretty well). The best in the hotel is its owner, a helpful and kind guy. He also helped us to negotiate the price of a wooden elephant which we bought from Rajanima Craft. It was a mess with that company after we left Sri Lanka, so we suggest that you shouldn’t buy anything there. They took us in and after 3 months of fighting with them we finally got our elephant but the additional cost reached about 1/4 of its initial price. They didn't mentioned about that when we stroke the bargain and of course they refused to participate then. The hotel owner offered no help this time and we were left alone with the problem, so the elephant got stuck in Hamburg for a month which generated even more costs. Visiting Rajanima Craft is part of the excursion witch you can buy in the hotel. The price of tuk-tuk for the all-day trip is OK but it's only good to see in Rajanima Craft how they make wooden sculptures. Doing any business with them will be your mistake. For example, we paid for the door-to-door delivery and then we had to go 500 km to get what was supposed to be paid for. They promised to paint some missing part on the elephant before sending it to us and they didn't do it at all.
Rajanima Craft in Kandy = cheaters !

We bought a wooden elephant from Rajanima Craft. It was then a mess with that company after we left Sri Lanka, so our suggestion is: don't buy anything there. They took us in and after 3 months of fighting with them we finally got our elephant but the additional cost reached about 1/4 of its initial price. They didn't mentioned about that when we stroke the bargain and of course they refused to participate then. The Kandy Hotel owner (a friend of the Rajanima Craft owner and the guy who showed us that place and helped us in price negotiations) didn't want to help us this time and we were left alone with the problem, so the elephant got stuck in Hamburg for a month which generated even more costs. Visiting Rajanima Craft is part of the excursion witch you can buy in the Kandy Hotel. It’s only good to see in Rajanima Craft how they make wooden sculptures. They promised to paint some missing part on the elephant before sending it to us and they didn't do it at all. For sure, you should go to some other place if you want to buy souvenirs safely. They were reluctant to answer our e-mails when we asked them to help us with the customs clearance and harbour costs. In conclusion, any deal with Rajanima Craft is a waste of your time, money and energy !

The Staff was great. Everyone was very helpful and friendly. The cook and service staff were attentive and very easy to talk to (and the food was excellent). And the receptionists helped arrange excursions and onward travel, and made waiting out the rain all the more enjoyable!

If I make my way back to kandy in the future I will certainly be staying here again.
