My husband, son and I stayed at The Cottage for an extended period of time and we loved it!
Tissa and Rosa greeted us on arrival and showed us all the ins and outs of the house. They were always available to answer any queries. They also introduced us to their friendly gardner and his wife who together played the role of tuk tuk driver, plumber, chef and local go to point for pretty much anything.
The house is located in the Victoria Range Bungalows in Digana. We felt very safe and comfortable inside the Bungalows and it was a good home away from the hustle and bustle of Kandy. The streets inside the Bungalows were particularly suitable for going for walks with our son as there is little traffic and the roads are managed well (given that Sri Lanka is a developing nation, this is of-course the total opposite of anywhere outside the Bungalows). We also loved having access to the pool and children’s park for days when we just wanted to stay home (the former requires paid entry but the prices are reasonable). The Bungalows are only a short tuk tuk ride from a local supermarket and local fruit and vegetable shops. The location is better suited as a base for longer stays in Sri Lanka as Digana is a 40 minute drive into Kandy out of peak hours.
The house itself was very comfortable, spacious, clean and had everything we needed. From kitchen utensils to spare linen, the place was very well equipped. We made our own meals on most days and we even had enough serving and dinnerware to host a lunch for several relatives. When we didn’t want to cook, the gardner’s wife was able to make us delicious Sri Lankan food.
All the beds were comfortable and there was ample spare linen for our extended stay. The Cottage also has a washing machine and plenty of hot sun for drying.
The gardner and his wife are available to clean the house on a regular basis. If you want to clean the house yourself, the place is again well equipped with everything you’ll need (including cleaning products).
There were also very few mosquitos in the house, especially if we kept the place shut in the late afternoon. We did get to see some nice local wildlife in the mornings with a mongoose and local birds enjoying our garden on a few occasions.
We really enjoyed our stay and felt comfortable in our home away from home. Thank you for having us.
