Poor room and poor service. Looks like this year has been taken in charge by inexperienced staff.
Almost everything in the room doesn't work properly and it not clean. There is noisy construction year nearby that makes sure you are awaken at 6:00AM.
Restaurant is so and so.

2)Great
When we decided to go to pinnawala with my  family, our first concern was to find a nice place to stay. after going through the reviews in Tripadvisor, we decided to visit elephant bay hotel,.
It was really nice. the staff was very friendly. Food was awesome. A big thank to restaurant staffs  who were in restaurant. they were really nice and helped a lot in many ways.
i just love this hotel. this is much better and keeps getting bigger and bigger ,last time when i traveled it was just a spacious restaurant only but now it has more than 15 rooms .
best of luck for the hotel management

We stayed at this hotel for one night only because we wanted to see the Elephants, There was no Hot Water in the room, and when we asked about the hot water all we got was we fix ok ok. The power went out later in the evening and that was it for the night, As for the sheets and the bed I fully confirm previous comments.Considering the other hotels we stayed at in Sri Lanka I really do not know how this hotel rates 3 1/2 stars.

we stayed 3 nights at elephant bay and do not recognise the place from some of the reviews, room was clean bed comfortable modern bathroom with hot shower. we had a wonderful view from our balcony overlooking the river. the elephants come down to the river twice a day to bathe we had a ring side view from the hotel resturant.we decided not to go to the orphanage as you get to see all the elephants close up from the hotel.the resturant food was ok service was very good. on the last day we were there the asistant manager arranged for us to visit a local tea factory which was interesting.

Room Tip: ask for a room overlooking the river

A great view of the elephants from the restaurant while having breakfast and its close to elephant orphanage. The staff and the hotel itself were fine and just right with the price that we paid for and the food is average. However, two things that disappoint us were the bed and the room amenities. we really had a bad sleep. The bed linens are horrible (we didnt sleep at all), its really uncomfortable. And the room amenities are limited. Nevertheless, Its only for a day but enjoyed a lot with the elephants. :)

Cheap hotel with terrible sleep quality. The bedlinen must have been 40 years old and maybe they have been white sometime? The location and view from the hotel is very good and the staff is very helpful and supportive. We had ants in the bed and all kinds of bugs in the room, but what can you expect from a two star hotel in the middle of the jungle. The staff also tried to fix the bug issue with all kinds of spray and eventually they changed the room (which unfortunately did not help). The food at the hotel was average, but do not order wine (expensive and bad quality). We stayed for two nights which was too long, one night or only a daytrip would have been enough.

Room Tip: Ask them to do a pest control in the room before you arrive. Ask for a room with balcony and river v...

We had an excellent stay at Hotel Elephant Bay. We went for one night so that our son could see the elephants in the river. When we arrived, the hotel was full with a tour party lunch (this is common in Sri Lanka), so we felt a little ignored, but when we went down to the water's edge and saw all the elephants come to bathe, the hotel became magical.

We were given an enormous, clean room at the top of the hotel with a great view of the river and breakfast was at the very least, adequate. They also served us drinks at night 'until we wanted them' - which wasn't late at all as it happened, but they made it clear that night security would provide whatever we required (we didn't). We would recommend walking across the river before dusk (there are massive stepping stones). The elephants are not there at this time, but it was fantastic to walk across nonetheless. True enough, there is not much going on in the town, but this was a great stop off for us and convenient for our trip to Peridanya (?) Junction the next morning, where we were due to join the train to hill country.

Room Tip: Rooms at the top have a great view of the river
