Up to standard hotel room for Sri Lanka standard.
Room enjoy good view to the river, with nice sound from river.
Support late check in.
The food is ok, juice is fresh.
The whole restaurant is by the side of river.
The hotel is next to the elephant orphanage.

The most important point is: The elephant would walk towards you when they are bathing. You can feed them from the hotel restaurant and only guest can do this!

Room Tip: Room facing river

Friendly staff, went out of the way to make sure our stay was comfortable. We checked in during the new year and everything was closed on that day. But the staff were kind enough to accomodate our food requests. Nice breakfast. Can relax and watch elephants in the lake.

The service was great. We were greeted by the manager who was friendly and warm. He even spoke with us about his Travels in Canada. The rooms were adequate. The views was overlooking the river so that was lovely but the room itself was nothing special. The food was my least favorite part. It was pretty disappointing however the view was stunning. We really enjoyed having such easy access to the elephants. Nothing compares to that. I would recommend staying here but eating somewhere else...Or at least eating a light meal.

great elephant watching over lazy breakfast. Another great hotel located by our driver, Nazar. It was the end of the season and therefore hotel pretty empty - as a result no buffet in evening and we should have dined out rather than stayed at the hotel. But great spot to watch the elephants in comfort.

Room Tip: We chose a triple room with a corner balcony overlooking the river - 65USD including breakfast

I stayed at the hotel for one night having wanted to visit Pinnawala to experience the elephants bathing in the river.. to be honest this is the only thing the hotel has going for it. In my opinion it was the worst hotel I stayed in in Sri Lanka and I couldn't get out of the place fast enough.

We arrived about 7pm and were show to our room. There was no offer of assistance with our luggage, there was no lighting in the stair cases, only flashing neon strobe lighting outside to light our way! As such I tripped up two stairs, stubbed my toe, nearly fell over and still had no offer of help with my luggage.

The rooms were standard but not great, they have AC, but you could smell the drains and the neon lights outside were just dreadful, not what you expect when you are going there for a nature experience!

Once we arrived we decided to head down for dinner, which was a mission in itself, not just because of the poor lighting but because the stair case was being repaired and covered in sawdust, machinery, nails, drills etc. As such we had to navigate down another staircase with no lights what-so-ever and was in the pitch black.

The evening food was poor, dirty table linen, tables all grouped together so no privacy, and we hardly ate anything. It was very overpriced for the quality and service, a real let down. In terms of breakfast it was delivered in a buffet style, there was no system, it was over crowded and very stressful with everything being scattered all over the place, not an enjoyable or relaxing at all.

Finally our check out was horrendous. We amended our booking over a week before from 2 nights to 1 night (thank goodness) but they still tried to charge us for 2 nights despite me showing the confirmation of the amend. The manager had "popped out" so it took us 3 people and 45 mins to resolve and no-one in the hotel seemed able to work the credit card machine so we had to pay by cash.

Overall is was a truly unpleasant experience.

Room Tip: Try another hotel!

The hotel was over our expectation with its big, clean rooms, beautiful view from the balcony, nice meal in the restaurant. We arrived at about midday and we got our room at once. We had a wonderful view to the bathing elephants in the river. We went for a walk to the village at about 5:30 but everything was closed, the streets were empty. After getting back to the hotel we went to the restaurant to have dinner. The devilled chicken was deliciuos and so was their curry. The price was rather reasonable but they closed the restaurant rather early. Next morning we had a nice breakfast and then went for a walk again. This time the shops and stalls were open and the streets were busy of tourists who arrived here to see the elephants on their way to the river. As we saw, Elephant Bay was the greatest hotel in Pinnawela. We recommend it.

Room Tip: All the rooms face the river so it does not matter which one you choose.

I have stayed in almost all the hotels in sri lanka and find this one the finest to stay. I'm thankful that i finally found this brilliant hotel and i was very happy with stay at hotel elphantbay. Simply the service is best i have ever had in any sri lanka hotel. I stayed in this hotel 2 nights and it was awesome experience. Simply the hotel rooms are nice, clean , best and had good decoration. The view from each point of the hotel was breath taking. I'm very much enjoyed the stay in this hotel and thought it was a fine value for the money spent. The hotel location is very relaxing and quite nice. And Its wonderful place on the river to see the elephant batting during lunch time. and the staff members are very cooparate, wellcomming and served me a wonderful local sri lankan meal call " idiyappa with chicken curry and sambal."and that was the most delicous and best food i have in my recent memory. so overall i enjoyed my wonderful stay at this hotel and this's my second stay at this lovely hotel. I will definetly stay this lovely hotel again. I'll highly recommend this hotel to anyone to stay at this hotel.
