Great experience and we can see more number of elephants at one single place. Baby elephants and female elephants are roaming freely and tourists can enjoy the site. We are informed that milk feeding is not there since elephants are now more than 5 years old. We can feed elephants (at specific timings ). Male elephants are kept separately. More than 10 elephants are moved to Kandy to participate in temple festival. Entrance fee (LKR 110) for local, SAARC countries (LKR 800) and other foreign countries (LKR 3000) are different.

great experience, by visiting the orphanage, you also sponsor the survival of the species! the best part of the visit are the bathing elephants in the river, we could have stayed there for hours!
good tip from our tour guide: while watching the elephants at the river, enjoy a dring on the terrace at the right side of the river, it will give you access to an amazing and clear overview over the bathing elephants.

Not an elephant orphanage at all! More that 80 elephants in distress are kept there just to amuse the “ignorant” tourists. Most of the beast are chained and follow a routine programme just to entertain the crowd, so sad. all the time they are are being beaten and frightened to obey.
It was nice to be near them but not pleasant to see all this circus.

Dear Panosk916

A fantastic day from Pinnawala Elephant Orphange!
Thank you for sharing valuable ideas with us. Your comments are taken in to consideration constructively as we strive to keep them happy in our custody. Primary purpose of this institute is providing care and shelter to orphaned elephants that were stranded in the wild.
Some bull elephants in the facility are very boisterous and aggressive. It is necessary to keep them under control for the safety of visitors as well as the animals. All the females in the facility aren’t chained and they can roam around from morning to late evening.

If you love elephants this is the place. So many elephants in one place. You can feed them( at a particular time) and see them roam freely. Overall a fun park.
