“Magical and excellent service”

This was an incredible start to our honeymoon. Highlights include eating supper in the jungle beneath the stars and our beautifully-designed eco lodge. The waiters and the manager bent over backwards to ensure we were comfortable and happy. I loved the open-air bathroom!

I came back to this place after 3 years wondering if Wild Grass I remember is still the same, lovely place. Honestly it wasn't and I need to say that being really suprised I realized, that it's even better (I wouldn't expect that was even possible!!). This time I came with my family and we got 2 rooms in the new family villa. I just loved it! Stunnig, comfortable rooms with all facilities needed, very clean, amazing outdoor bathroom. I would highly recommend those villas for the families or group of friends, which could have their own privacy in absolute luxury. Having floor to ceiling windows you can watch the nature all the time laying in your king size bed! Food is just a heaven so if you stay there, definitely try their meals - you will fall in love with the food here. Have to mention about the staff which is just incredible. I have stayed at many beautiful places in Sri Lanka but here service at Wild Grass was absolutely top notch. Special thanks for Manager who is very professional and extremaly nice gentelman and looked after us so well! I can't wait to stay with you again in the future! J&W

Room Tip: Deifinitely place for everybody! When I came only with my boyfriend we stayed at one bedroom villa w...

Biggest irritation here was the obsequious over-attendance: we weren't able to even stir our own tea unaided. Second irritation was some well intended cooking that more or less failed on most counts. Beyond that, Wild Grass is fantastic: private villas set in the Sri Lankan nature. Ours was very well appointed (could have been cleaner, but I'm being very strict in my judgement here). It's remote - a plus for me - and its a great base for the Dambulla area: Sigiriya is not far, nor is Polunaruwa or Dambulla and its ancient caves. As everywhere in Sri Lanka I was not impressed with the treatment and accommodation offered our driver, but he seemed happy enough. We were there in April and the water hole was pretty dry and there wasn't much to see in wildlife terms beyond monkeys. The pool area is secluded, but the pool really isn't up to scratch and the area around it not that well tended. But then you aren't going to Wild Grass to hang out at the poolside, are you? As a base for touring, Wild Grass does very well, but only use it for that.

Room Tip: They are all private and a similar distance from the reception/restuarant building, so it makes litt...

I was looking for a place for a family reunion and came across Wild Grass quite by accident. Mr Perera who is the manager took care of us beautifully, even to the extent of ferrying meals to the cabin for one of my guests because he was ill. The cabins are beautifully decorated and built to give a maximum of privacy and romance. There is an ideal family villa that is linked with one deck, where you can sit out and chat or eat, or gaze at the stars. The service and attention was excellent. Sigiriya is literally just 15 mins away. We were here for two nights and were impressed that the menu changed every day. If I have any advice it is that while the first two courses were good, the main was not as tasty as the rest of the meal for dinner. The rice and curry and breakfasts however were always good. It is a place I will definitely recommend to all my friends.

Room Tip: One villa has the bathroom downstairs, which may not be good for senior citizens.

This was our first trip to sri lanka and Wild Grass was the first of several high end accommodation we stayed in. It set the bar soooo high that we realised it is in a class of its own. It combines simplicity and tranquillity with style. It was private and intimate, yet very relaxed and friendly. We wished that we had stayed longer here! The small group of staff that run it are absolutely lovely and a large part of the experience. They grow the food for the meals on site and the chef/manager is a very kind man and talented cook. The freshness and flavours were incredible and all the staff are very happy to help with any matter and it was like being welcomed into a family. The amazing storms every evening meant that the onsite golf cart got used on a few occasions to transport us back to our privately dispersed villas, which was great fun! We went on a safari whilst we were staying here and to be honest it was a bit of a waste of time, we saw more and were closer here at wild grass. We saw monleys chasing through the tree canopy, mongoose, goanna, 2 types of eagle, a pied kingfisher, many lizards and etc etc and yes we didn't see an elephant or crocodile, but the distance we were from these in the jeeps (the heavy traffic of which frightened the animals further away) made it seem an almost pointless experience. We got a tour company driver for our stay in Sri Lanka, but I wish that we hadn't. It was expensive, the driver kept altering the itinerary to suit his preferences and was a bit like travelling with a disinterested parent. It is far better to get a local driver - who is a fraction of the price and to engage them for a few excursions/adventures or to shift locations. We met a wonderful man named Jaysiri or 'Chutty' when we went to Bentota and our driver had abandoned us for a few unscheduled days off. Chutty took us on a lovely local tour and had a much more engaged idea about what is lovely for people to experience about sri lanka. He showed us places not in any of the guide books and took my son and I to be blessed by a buddhist monk. He also collects from the air port and can take you to any location in sri lanka for a massive fraction of the price of the companty we used. He was a very careful driver and very considerate and generous with his time and quality of experience that he extended. Anyone going to sri lanka for an experience of another country and culture rather than a mass tourist experience in a hotel that could be anywhere in the world, where people are roasting themselves the colour of the teak sunbed should go to Wild Grass and they should get Chutty as their driver. We enjoyed three nights here as a family of four with 9 and 13 year old children. The staff were really friendly and helpful. It was a bit more individual that some of the accommodation we had during a two week holiday and it was the children's favourite. There was loads of space and a sense of privacy and adventure and lots of animals about.

We booked our Sri Lanka honeymoon through the excellent Experience Travel - real experts on the country and incredibly helpful.

Wildgrass is situated near lake Kandalama and is nestled in lush green surroundings teeming with wildlife. We really started getting closer to nature here. Our chalet had incredible views and every luxury you wouldn’t expect in this location. The room was absolutely huge, and had glass walls to feel like you were right in the jungle. The shower was in an enclosed but outside space – this was so nice to be out in at the end of hot days.

The service and food were again really good, and we enjoyed being karted around in a golf buggy during a couple of down pours!

There were some amazing bird watching and nature walks to go on. We also went on elephant safari, to the incredible Sigiriya and the less impressive but worth a visit Ritigala.

All in highly recommended, especially for nature buffs!
