“Spectacular view and excellent Ayurvedic spa”
Reviewed 4 May 2012

The hotel is really chalets over a large piece of land. Just as you can see the Rock Fortress from the swiming pool, you can see the pool from top of the Rock....if you climb it. We were 4 ladies who stayed for 2 nights on a historical/ cultural tour. The ayurvedic spa was the best in the area. We met the doctor there and he is very knowledgeable, with clientele even in Europe. Ayurvedic massage is not at all like the western nor more energetic massages in the East. The steam bath at the end is a must-have.
The landscaping at the Padi Fields section could be filled up and some plants grown over it. It looks a bit of a mess than a decoration.

Stayed at this hotel for 2 nights during cultural tour the location is fantastic with lots of monkeys and other animals in the grounds, The bungalows are ok for a couple of nights but could do with a bit of updating. The food was very good with loads of choice and excellent curries. The drinks are quite expensive and make sure you get a receipt if you pay at the bar because they charged me for 1 on checkout that I had paid for the night before. We left at 7.30 in the morning to climb sigiriya rock and had got to the top and back down by 9.30 before it got to hot which is probably the best option as I don't think we could of done it later in the day when it's much hotter. You can get an elephant ride by the hotel entrance up the road and along a track through the jungle, a lad comes with the mahout to take photos and video with your camera and does a good job, an excellent experience and well worth the money and the large tip.

Room Tip: Try to get a room near to the main building as some of the rooms are quite a long walk.

This lovely property is surrounded by trees and has a lovely lake just outside the reception and dining area. The rooms are bungalow style and are spacious. Unfortunately there are no tea and coffee making facilities and the internet is only available from reception and is very iratic.

The meals were very good. Buffet style, the selection was very very good and delicious.

I would recommend this hotel as it has a lovely "jungle" feel to it.

I would not however recommend having your laundry done here. All our lovely whites came back very grey and our t-shirts shrunk.

We stayed in Sigriya for 2 nights way back in 2008. Beautiful place lot of greenery . The breakfast and dinner was great. They served drinks in the pool. My collegue went for their honey moon in March 2012 and had the same amazing feel as i had in 2008. Summary Good cozy place to stay.

I stayed at this hotel for two nights in March 2012. I found that there were many pros and few cons to this hotel.

SImply put:
PROS
1) Really well kept and managed hotel. The grounds were beautiful, the pool clean with many spare chairs, and the service was excellent. There were black faced monkeys running around the resort.
2) The buffet style dinner and breakfasts were excellent. I am not a fan of buffets typically, especially not in Sri Lanka, and I found that the buffet was well presented, managed and there was a lot of variety. It is a little overpriced but thats to be expected I think. The a la carte menu also offered some great choices, namely the hamburger (I was craving MEAT, a rarity in Sri Lanka).
3) The bar service is great. The drinks are tasty, and their fresh orange juice might be the best I've ever had.
4) The location of the hotel is ideal for those wishing to visit SIgiriya.

CONS:
1) If you're not a bug person, as I am not, you might not like the creatures that reside EVERYWHERE in this resort. This includes mosquitos, slugs, caterpillars, HUGE ants, crickets etc.
2) The rooms aren't great. We originally booked two standard rooms and were so disappointed with the quality of the room. The worst feature was that both rooms had a terrible odor (from the humidity I'm guessing) that smelled like urine. The rooms are outdated, the walls dirty and the door has a small crack at the bottom where bugs can crawl in. The bathroom on the other hand, was clean and in good condition. Once we upgraded to a superior room, we were happier. The room looks aesthetically better overall and included a TV and a fully stocked mini bar, but it still faced many of the same problems as the original room. Both rooms had a bathroom shower screened window that had no covering (i.e. blinds, curtain), and this was really awkward because people outside could see in.

Overall I would recommend this hotel to anyone passing through this town as it has many positive features despite its negative features. You surely won't be disappointed with its eco-friendly grounds, delicious food and great staff.

Room Tip: Superior rooms are worth it for the extra few dollars. Upgrade if possible!

The hotel's main strength (and why it remains popular) is its location. Situated close to Sigiriya Rock, it boasts superb views of the rock from the swimming pool area and certain sections of the dining room. The hotel grounds are very nice, green and lush with local wildlife abound including birds and monkeys.

On to the not so good points:

- The room smelt musty and damp and was very dark
- The bathrooms are incredibly basic and unappealing to use
- The bed design is ugly and desperately needs a redesign
- The bed coverlet smelled like it had not been washed
- The food served in the restaurant is average at best. Service & ambience is all very impersonal and the hotel is often full of tour groups
- We ordered lunch on our last day there (a sandwich) which took over 45 mins to arrive. When it did arrive the fries were undercooked.
- Service on the front desk was dismissive and uninterested.

All of the above and the fact that the room rate was around £75 p/night means we did not have a very good experience. Much better value can be found elsewhere in the Sigiriya/Dambulla area.
