“an oasis in the jungle”
Reviewed 18 August 2011

Me and my new wife booked a trip to discover sri lanka as part of our honeymoon, and we arrived to the hotel sigiriya after a long 5 hour drive from colombo on coach and were not sure what we would come to but arrived to a most breathtaking view of the rock, we beautiful surroundings around the pool.
As we stayed longer we were traeted like royalty with amazing service with all the staff only too happy to help. the food was amazing and had live stir fries each evening which i would highly recommend.
On the final night i mentioned to the executive chef H.D Zoysa that it was a shame there was no hoopers available tonight as a local treat, he the appeared 10 minutes later with some made for me.
Room were made beautifully and beds decorated for your return after a long day.

Would love to come back

Calming and zen-like, we relaxed straight away! The view of Lion Rock is stupendous, the pool is lovely, and staff go out of their way to make you feel comfortable. It feels like you're in a beautiful and well-maintained clearing in the jungle.

It was our son's birthday during our stay and the kitchen provided a beautifully iced cake with his name on, for free. The housekeeping staff excelled themselves, writing a happy birthday message in flowers on the decorated bed - it was brilliant and made his day very special! They were also extremely efficient with laundry.

The food was exceptionally good; delicious authentic dishes, always a good variety and amazing puddings. There was always a fantastic sounding cocktail at the bar but the children would have liked to have had a non-alcoholic cocktail for them - it'd be a good seller.

The amount of wildlife dashing about and leaping around in the trees was amazing, though the hammering of monkey feet on the rooves at night can be alarming at first! We even saw a monitor waddling around, but there are sensible signs warning you not to feed the animals, reminding you that they are wild and unpredictable.

We stayed 3 nights and from there climbed Lion Rock and visited the ancient city of Pollaruwa and Minneriya National Park, where we saw about 150 elephants! Highly recommend all three trips. We were on a private tour with Destination Sri Lanka, with Nimal de Silva, whom you couldn't fail to recommend! With Nimal, you don't have to visit all the shops owned by his friends and business associates; you create the tour YOU want! With a great sense of humour and good command of English, he's a knowledgeable and caring guy who wants you to be delighted with his country. Contact him on: ndsilva67@yahoo.com.

Hotel is perfectly located for climbing Sigiriya Rock. Staff are relaxed and friendly but sometimes tried to encourage you to buy extras such as massages while relaxing at the pool.
The pool is large and in peaceful surroundings

I stayed here for two nights on the August 2010 with my girlfriend. I can only say that the word "perfect" summarize every single feature of this hotel! We were in the standard room that was very spacious and clean, with typical srilankan furniture; the bathroom was clean and big too. The restaurant is another point of difference of this hotel, with a great variety and high wuality meals. There are a lot of monkeys in the surrounding of the hotel but they cannot enter in the hotel area. And if you decide to stay here, don't forget to experience the beautiful swimming pool at the sunset lookng at Sigiriya Rock: an unforgettable experience! Finally in this hotel you can easily feel at the same time in the middle of the forest but with the right level of luxury you can desire on holiday.

We stayed here for two nights as part of a Mercury Direct 4 day tour. It's a really nice hotel. Fantastic views and pretty grounds.
Rooms are very nice and comfortable. Food was very, very good, tasty and lots of choice. All the staff very very helpful and friendly.
We would have been very happy to stay here for a lot longer!

One of the best hotels we've stayed in, during our tour of Sri Lanka. The staff were very friendly and warm unlike most who just wait around for the tip. They treated us like royalty. The rooms were clean, cosy and comfortable; the surroundings were serene. A perfect place to unwind.
The swimming pool is very clean; it overlooks the Sigiriya rock fortress which is an amazing view. It is also suggested to take the early morning nature walk accompanied by the Naturalist and a therapeutic foot massage by the pool
Looking forward to a long stay out here, in the near future.

ALL IN ALL WE'LL DEFINITELY STAY HERE AGAIN.

We were booked through Mercury Direct to do a four day mini tour at the beginning of our holiday. The tour was organised by Aitkin Spence who met us at the airport with a very polite and helpful gentleman who presented us with a comprehensive welcome pack and announced that he would be our personal driver and guide for the next few days. Praban then drove us from the airport to the Hotel Sigiriya, a journey of some 4 or 5 hours with a couple of comfort breaks and a very interesting series of discussions about a variety of topics. As has been said several times, you arrive down what can only be described as a cart track and turn into the reception of the hotel where you are warmly welcomed with a refreshing glass of fruit juice.
The whole experience of the Hotel Sigiriya could not be faulted and the two nights we spent there were some of the most memorable. The hotel has a patina that cannot be replicated in a brand new concrete monolith, so don't expect 'nameless chain' levels, just enjoy the small idiosyncracies of a unique experience in the jungle with views of 'The Rock' to die for when sat at the bar or in the restaurant.
Rooms are a bit basic but clean, well appointed and full of character, very colonial! he room boys do a great job in the overall presentation and take a pride in their efforts. The en-suite bathroom was a bit tired but scrupulously clean.
All the meals we had in the restaurant were absolutely excellent, the first night being a theme night with a Mongolian twist where you took your choice of food to be cooked in front of you, novel and truly delicious! The second night was a la carte with a good and varied choice to suite most palate. Breakfasts were substantial and again all tastes catered for, no compaints what so ever!!
The staff were most impressive with their continuous attention to detail, right down to people on the roof sweeping away the leaves! Always courteous and polite, even after accidently setting off the alarm on the room safe!
This hotel epitomises everything that a laid back relaxing touring base should be and one that we both would like to go back to one day.
