Puranagama Eco Lodge

Puranagama Eco Lodge is a perfect place to stay if you just want to relax and enjoy yourself. The traditional huts are very inviting and close to the Rekawa lagoon near Tangalle. It´s a very quiet place as there are no other houses around. In the evening you can see lots of animals (especially birds) there because they also stay at the lagoon overnight. There are three huts you can rent as acommodation and one really nice restaurant. We stayed in the hut right at the lagoon for two nights which was lovely... You can see the birds flying in every evening directly from your veranda. The food was typical sri lankan and very delicious. Also the staff was really friendly and helped us to get around with their own tuktuk. I definitley recommend this place because on the one hand you can relax and unwind perfectly and on the other hand you have a lot of interesting things to do around. It´s not far to the beautiful national parks like Yala or Bundala. Also Tangalle or the beaches in the surrounding are well worth visiting. One last thing I want to mention is that it´s a charity project. So with the income of the tourists, the Eco Lodge supports the construction of a school closeby for the tsunami village which was founded after the tsunami.

If you´re looking for a relaxing place like that, I can really recommend it!!! They also have a homepage where you can check out some more pictures... www.puranagama.de

I stayed 2 nights at the Eco lodge with a friend. We stayed in the big house, which is located in front of the lagoon. From this house you cannot hear or see the other houses, just the hundreds of birds that come every evening to sleep in the lagoon and leave in the morning. It was sooo wonderful to stay in this peaceful place which allows the guests to really connect with nature and to purely relax.
The food in the small, comfy restaurant was very good and I was able to place my special food requests. The staff was very helpful and made almost everything possible.
In the near surrounding there are plenty of possibilities for daytrips such as deserted beaches or we also went to Yala nationalpark which was very nice.
I would definitely recommend this place !!!!
By the way with the money you ypend for the accomodation you support the construction of a local school for the tsunami village near by. I think more places should be like that!
Enjoy!!!

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
Puranagama TangaIle is just a mile away from the main road in TangaIle but once you enter it seems you have ventured deep into the forest. A sense of calmness pervades the atmosphere and the sun seems to be loung-ing in the sky as the winds brush up against you. Automatically your body and mind begins to unwind and the quite surroundings seem bliss. This is the place to be if you want some peace and quite to pull yourself together. This small village of clay houses, build in the traditional Sri Lankan way. After the Tsunami 2004 the construction of the houses started to offer you this unique Eco Lodge experience. The basis of the houses are made of wooden sticks and the walls a clay mixture. The roof is covered with palm leaves or coconut mats and straw. This construction method creates a special climate in the house and brings a pleasant coolness on hot days. Puranagama is not stylish and sophisticated; it simply gives you pure nature to feast on. The mood at Puranagama is the right mood you want to be and you need to be. Puranagama gives you the mood of serenity.
