“Beautiful spot, great seafood in the restaurant”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 20 February 2014

This beautiful small resort lies at a very nice beach in Tangalle. The huts we had were basic but the building style had character, so we felt very well. Beds are large and the mosquito nets are good. As the huts are semi-open this is an important fact to protect from mosquitoes and bugs. The restaurant offered delicious grilled seafood, also breakfast was good including fresh fruits. The only downside was the waiters in the restaurant. We had to keep repeating what we ordered and ask 3 times before we got it. Even though the owner Kamal was very obliging he obviously could not make up for this. Sure however that he is doing his best to improve the service. All in all we can recommend the Cinnabar Resort!

Room Tip: Try to get a hut or the tree house.

Staff were very friendly and helpful and the resort is set on the cleanest and prettiest part of Tangalle beach. The restaurant did really lovelt food and was right on the beach. We had some great breakfasts and a dinner there. Room was clean and secure with a huge bathroom. Really enjoyed our stay here.

We found The Cinnabar Resort after changing our itinerary, if you're after a quiet place to unwind and relax then this is definitely the one.

Very friendly staff, Kamil speaks very good English and his brother also. We stayed up a couple of nights drinking Arrack and chatting which was great fun. The food is worth the wait, and the seafood is superb and extremely fresh.

The rooms are comfortable and clean although they could benefit from somewhere to put bags etc as we had a visit from some unwanted 4 legged visitors one night that did a small amount of damage to a bag. Don't let this put you off though as I would definitely go back if I was ever close by!

My first impression of Cinnabar came from the friendly and lovely smile of Amila. He came to the bus station to pick up my girlfriend and me with his resort tuktuk.

After we arrived Cinnabar, we decided to go for the turtle watch at night. Amila contacted his friends, and learned that the turtle had just landed on the beach. We left the resort immediately. He was so dedicated. He wanted us not to be disappointed, wanted us to be able to see the turtle. He was so focus in driving. He wanted to take us there asap. He also brought us an umbrella, and walked down to the beach with us.

We finished the turtle watch late after midnight. When we were back to the hotel, Kamal stayed up late, and made us a delicious seafood dinner. Not to mention, he woke up early the next day to make us breakfast.

The cabanas, tree house, furniture in the restaurant, hang bed, shelter are all hand-made by them and their old neighbor. They are built in a very natural and well designed way. Each cabana is unique. You can tell they have put in a lot of effort and thoughts. They were well maintained. Later I learned that both of them worked in great hotels before, and they always apply the same high standards in their resort.

We really appreciated their effort and delicateness to provide their guests wonderful experiences.

If you are looking for a place to relax, enjoy the beach and weather, with great food and drinks, this is the place. Strongly recommended.

Thank you very much, Kamal and Amila!

Room Tip: Try the Calamari in the resort restaurant. Delicious. Good with Lion beer. And don't miss the...

The two brothers who run Cinnabar are extremely accommodating and could not be more welcoming. You have your choice of bungalows, or a spacious and comfortable apartment, or a beachfront tree-house. All rooms have attached bathrooms. Make sure to check out the beautiful sunrise, since you are right on the beach. The atmosphere is super chilled out, and the brothers are very responsive and hard working. They make real coffee, anytime you want it. When I wanted to wake up early, they made me coffee at 6am. They will do your laundry too. Wifi is available, but only in the restaurant. The food is really good, but if you eat fish, you really must try Kamal's version. It has onions and garlic and ginger and is to die for. The restaurant only cooks fish and vegetables (which is a plus for vegetarians). I had such a relaxed and comfortable week there, I will be back for New Years. One thing to note is that there is no swimming in front of the guesthouse because of the rocks. The beach in general is not a great one for swimming because of the strong riptides, but there's one spot that is about 10-15 min walk from cinnabar where the water is ok.

Room Tip: Depending on when you get there, you will have your choice. the tree house is really neat, but not...

Overwhelmed by the quirky, beautifully designed accommodation on a stunning corner of Sri Lanka. You can choose from a treehouse, a clay hut or little apartments set amongst nature, but right on the beach. We were able to view all of them and choose. Cinnabar is a quiet, mellow place to stay but with a great atmosphere. The restaurant food is sooooo tasty and they can't do enough for you. Everything is kept really clean and tidy and the brothers who run it are super friendly, but in a nice subtle way. Never trying to sell you anything, like in some places. They just want you to enjoy your time in Sri Lanka and get to know you as friends. The best places I've stayed in,in 7 weeks of being in Sri Lanka.
We highly recommend this place to anyone and wish the Cinnabar team all the luck in the world as they truly deserve it! We will be back! X

This was a great place for us to stay in Tangalle. The individual huts were great, very high quality with a proper sprung mattress on the bed and a terrace to sit out on. Cinnabar is right on the beach and it's the perfect place to relax with a beautiful stretch of sand. You can't swim here but it's fun to play in the waves and you can walk down the beach to a pool where you can swim.
Breakfast was huge and very good, lots of fresh fruit, fresh bread and an omelette. We thought that meals were a bit expensive initially but the portions are so huge that you can share and it's all very tasty. Also, if you need anything from town then the staff will go to the shops for you.

Only mishap was when the safe malfunctioned but they managed to get into it to retrieve our valuables with minimal fuss!
