“Amazing!”
Reviewed 5 August 2014

Stunning is an under statement!..the architecture, the food, the service, the view the culture..probably one of the best in the world..5 star!
The view over the bay is magical.
Also stayed at the Galle Aman which was really nice as well..very colonial vibe..The Galle fort centre is a definite stopping/shopping spot..probably the best tourist set up. Sri Lanka feels more safe than ever as well as the new highway system take hours off the travel.
For me the Tea Trails area on a train ,Galle for shopping , Aragan Bay for surfing and the Amanwella for chilling out are the pick spots in Sri Lanka!

Room Tip: Surfing with Tropicsurf is available with many waves in the region.

Amanwella is our perfect resort....villas are spaced throughout the property so you truly feel secluded and can enjoy your own private holiday. Walk to the main resort building with the pools, bar and restaurant and you can enjoy a more resort type feel. The best of both worlds. The beach area with its own fabulous outdoor restaurant is lovely...unpretentious yet still exclusive. My husband celebrated his birthday here and Dinuka arranged a private beach dinner for us.....candles lighting a path down the beach to an elegantly prepared table draped in white linen and crystal...truly mesmerizing!! The candles surrounding us provided our lighting and it was the most romantic setting and meal ever! Dinuka had suggested a menu earlier as this was a surprise for my husband and the grilled fish prepared tableside was fantastic. Dinuka I can't thank you enough for all your preparation and help.

Our room was beautiful....expansive and modern. A half wall separated the long rectangular bedroom and huge bathroom. Again, like Amangalle, the bathtub was a focal point in the center of the bathroom. A half wall separated the tub from the sink areas and behind this was a wardrobe area with a glass enclosed shower on one side and a toilet room on the other side. Really beautiful! There was an outside deck facing the ocean, again long and narrow...a perfect place to read and relax on your own. Or, you could chose the walled garden entrance to your room with its own patio and plunge pool. We would walk in from our days of sightseeing and fall into our private pool!!

Amanwella's grounds are all beautifully maintained. We didn't frequent the hotel's pool area as most of our time was spent either at the beach, sightseeing or in our villa and pool. Breakfast, lunch and dinner were all outstanding and we would never consider eating outside the resort. The small beach restaurant is busy in the evenings so book your table as soon as you arrive, if not before.

This sophisticated resort also felt like home as the staff were always friendly and helpful. Anything we asked or requested was taken care of with a smile. We even left a package behind which Dinuka arranged to be transported to our next hotel in Kandy. And, the resort's resident black labrador was a favorite. Very well behaved and unobtrusive, unless you wanted attention and then he would make time for you!! We were missing our own pet dog so having him around was a real treat!

Henry, the general manager, was always present asking after the guests and offering suggestions as to sightseeing in the area. It was such a pleasure staying at Amanwella and we plan to bring our adult children with us on our next visit as its a perfect place for the young and not so young!! :) Thank you Henry, Dinuka and all the staff at Amanwella for making our stay a memorable one.

We just returned from two glorious weeks in Sri Lanka, one of which was spent at Amanwella, the perfect combo of a beautiful property and fantastic people. The rooms are wonderful - spacious, well designed, with views of the pristine beach. The service was fantastic. Sasilu took care of us during our entire stay and there was no request too small or too big for him to handle with efficiency and a smile. We only ate Sri Lanka cuisine and it was absolutely amazing. The chef cooked for us each night and the assortment of Sri Lankan rice & curry dishes along with the grilled prawns and lobster was the epitome of foodie heaven. Henry, the GM, was gracious and the perfect host. Although the journey is very long from the US, we will absolutely return. Thank you, Amanwella team!

Room Tip: Rooms 108 thru 111 are set above the beach with clear ocean views.

We ended up staying here after our original hotel said they were fully booked, and we are so glad we did. The location is gorgeous, nestled in a coconut grove, with a clean sweeping beach. The pool is a fantastic 48 metres and the rooms are large and luxurious - although maybe the A/C could be improved.

The breakfast was a la carte, and the waiting staff took time to ask us what we were doing that day or if we needed reservations for anything. The eggs benedict was wonderful and the muesli was enough to feed a family!.

We ate in the restaurant on the first night and then on the beach one night (with the GM). A casual comment to him about cold milk in tea (sri lankans like theirs hot) resulted in cold milk for my breakfast tea the next morning - thats what i call service! :-).

This was without doubt the best property we stayed in on our holiday (we did 6 hotels in total), with the best service. It could do with having a gym added - but that would not stop me going back. The guy around the pool should get a mention as he is always there with cold water and ready to move things around for you, as should our guest relations guy.

This is more or less twice the price of any surrounding hotels, but then it is probably 3 times better. Fantastic staff and food, wonderful rooms, altogether very relaxing. The beach is rougher than some but fine to swim in in most parts. The service was outstanding,

Room Tip: Perhaps worth paying more for the pool rooms nearer the hotel.

Am a big fan of Aman but they haven't quite got this one right. Yet. Amazing location, amazing pool, beach, views, property. Staff are fabulous. But the food needs work. Also, our room was somewhat problematic. Glaring (minor) construction flaws (gaps between floor and outside doors) let bugs in and a/c out! Coolest room was the library (rarely used), but a/c seems an issue at the restaurant. Assuming you don't want to eat outside. Spa also needs improvement. Also seemed to be an issue cleaning the plunge pool from falling leaves.

Room Tip: Check that the a/c really works in your room.
