“Nice and pleasant B&B”
Reviewed 27 April 2012

Our 2-nights stay at Laurel Villa was a wonderful experience. Not only was the B&B strategically located within walking distance to the pier, bus station, convenience store but it is also within walking distance to some walking trails around the lake. This family-run minsu treats us more like friends than customers and they are ever so eager to please and ensure that we have enough food for the breakfast that comes with the room as well as the package dinner.

Like what Wayne told us, not all customers might get the same treatment; not to say that he discriminates, but depending on the number of guests they have for the night, he and his family might just be too busy handling the administrative work or other aspects of the B&B business that customers might feel that their needs are not met. Some guests' expectations might be raised after reading of the good experiences of others and the number 1 ranking by tripadvisor and when they don't get what they expect, then their comments might be negative.

To ensure everyone has a good stay, Laurel Villa strives to ensure that guests take care of their rooms the same way they would of their own homes. Hence this might not go down well with customers who feel that since they paid for the services, they should be free to do as they please. Just remember that if we does our conservation bit for the environment to cater for future generations, we are also contributing towards the comfort of future guests if we comply with the rules at Laurel Villa.

I would think that Wayne and his family did an excellent job in educating guests on the environment. On the extras that he provided in terms of fireflies trip and morning sunrise tour, he did it willingly and without any extra charges but with the hope that every guest would go home taking with them good memories of sun moon lake.

Wayne, keep up the good job!

Room Tip: Try to travel light, if possible. Although Wayne and his mom helped with our luggages to the first f...

On our first night, Wayne brought us out to experience the fire flies even though its not season yet. We were fortunate to experience the magic of thousands of fire flies lighting up the sparks
in the darkness of the mountain forests...what a magical welcome! a compliment from Wayne.

As I have a misaligned lumbar problem for the past 6 years, I was experiencing some difficulty in long walk, Wayne was very kind and personally drove me to a Traditional doctor in a town 30 minutes away. With just One click the doctor aligned my ligament and lumbar..truely amazing.

Noticed that the room was filled with a subtle nice fragrance and on further enquiry, found that the flooring was actually tiled with a Taiwanese Treasure wood that emit this subtle fragrance. Its a protected and revered specimen...no wonder no outside shoes are allowed in the room.

Wayne and his family are very geniune people...its a very rare to find such human this days,

Room Tip: Avoid the weekend. choose a weekday.

Me and my friend are getting taxi to this minshu , but couldn't found the way, fortunately contact Wayne's mother for help..and she is very nice and patiently to inform the driver of the direction to her place and she even waiting us outside of the minshu to welcoming us. That day was a raining day somemore..

After we reached, aunty was helping us for the check in and giving us the advise of the transportation, meals etc...And they do provide their guests for the early morning walking to the mountain to enjoy the sunrise, although i am miss it (cos it's really have to wake up in the early morning =P), but we can enjoy the lake view just which just few step walk from the minshu, or you can even go to the cafe which just right opposite of the minshu..

p/s : Due to this is private minshu, the door does not like to hotel will open 24 hours, so the gate is actually close, you may have to get the owner's permission the night before open it..as there isn't have anyone at the counter in the early morning at 6am).

Although the dinner need to pay a small cost, but got the "Home" feel, dishes are nice and cook in healthy way..

In the room, it is very clean and the bed are comfortable..

Advisable travelers whom would like to stay in this minshu to pack a light luggage, this is because they do not have the lift, highest floor will be up to 3rd/4th floor..

They also do help guests to purchase the boat ride ticket, it is more cheaper compare to we bought ourselves, and they will even bring you to the pier to board it although the pier is just few step walk. =)

Nearby this minshu they have some souvenir shop and the snack selling..so it's actually quite convenience of that..

It's really a good place for relaxing..

Fate brought us to Laurel Villa in February 2012. A ordinary looking B&B from outside but extraordinary hosts. A fuss-free and cosy B&B, as always, i enjoyed interacting with the hosts and i must say the owners are fun loving and we shared the similar thoughts and philosophy on travel and living life.

I missed the morning walk which I think is really a must do the next time. Dinner with LV was, in my humble opinion fantastic because it was prepared in a healthy and homely manner. It's a fresh change of diet after weeks of night market food stalls stuff.

I am more than happy with the convenient location of LV, next to Shuishe jetty, the SML tourism office, bus stops and a special bus to the Chechen retro train station and the popular Jiji railway line. There are not much complains about the room, decent for a couple and mine has a partial view of SML. However, i suggest you pack light because the narrow stairs might prove an obstacle for most.

All in all, a fantastic stay, met new friends and will return with my family soon. Thanks Laurel Villa!

Room was ok, location was good, 5-10min from shui she visitor centre. However, my experience was not as wonderful as other reviewers. Owners were not very flexible in allowing us for a quick shower 30min after checkout time and Check out time was early at 11am. There are many other cheaper options around in SML.

As all mentioned Wayne was very accomodative and nice. He even brought us for a morning.

Excellend location which is just next to the wharf.

However his mum can be a bit fussy. We had make our 50% deposit prior to arrival and balance on arrival. Due to some internet issues, our payment could not get through. We requested from his mum to allow the kids and others to check in while we continue on the payment but she refuses. She keep emphasizing the need to take off our shoes before going up the room..understand the need to maintain the place but that is just a bit too much if we are a guest.

Room is clean and neat. Only a bath towel was provided. No hand towel. Thus we got to use tissue papers to wipe our hand (we stayed in the anned block and basin is outside of the bathroom).

Its consider pricey comparing similar class B&B around that area.

Well, all the good things have been said about Laurel Villa, and I'm happy to just verify them as true. :)

Made a new friend during the morning walk and extra care and attention for my mum. Truly a great travel experience.

Taking water from the reception at the other block back to room to make tea may be a bit of a hassle (cos gotta change to the room slippers before going up the stairs to the room), but still worth it as the water tastes much better - cos it's spring water! So for the next few days, I got spring water relapse as the bottled water doesn't taste as great anymore. You can immediately tell the difference!

Room Tip: The original rooms at the main building of Laurel Villa appear to be bigger, though older than those...
