“Great place to stay”
Reviewed 10 December 2012

Enjoyed stay with family from 8 to 10 Dec, would have stayed longer if room was available.
Although weather was wet on first day, Wayne and family made effort to advise us on the various activities available.
Family room was big and with partial views of the lake and breakfast was tasty and my daugther remarked that it felt like eating at home.
Morning walk was very good and the group of us enjoyed the views. Too bad my wife could not see it personally.
Will look forward to visitng SML and staying at Laurel Villa again.

Room Tip: Family room is great and beds are big.

Spent 2 nights there as part of our 10 days trip. Weather was terrible as it was raining everyday but it's a beautiful sight when the sky finally cleared on our last day. Room is a little cramp and best advice is to leave your big luggages at Taipei Main Station (they have locker services) instead of lugging them into the room. We stayed in the Black Room which is unfortunately, on the top level (level 3) but we had help with our 2 big luggages to the room. The milk tea provided in the room is excellent, probably the best I've had and it's brewed by the owners' family. Will be back when the weather's better and carry light!

The room we stayed at was nicely decorated, but a little cramp for a couple.
There is only one way to enter and leave the bed. The shower is good, alhough you must walk pass the shower to reach the toilet.
We as tall Europeans (1.86) fitted UNDER the showerhead. The double bed is more kingsize.
The owners are extremely nice and helpful in making telephone calls for your next destination, advising daytours and so on.
The speak enough English to help you out, and yes, it is very handy when you have someone that speaks a little English.

Room Tip: Ask for a big room

We had a wonderful 2 day stay with Wayne and his family. They greeted us with a friendly smile and continued to exceed all of our requirements during our stay. From helpful advice about the local area to getting us safely back to our home base with an approaching typhoon they bent over backwards to make our stay enjoyable. Located in town, just off of the harbour docks and near the bus terminal and tourist information center it is right where you want to be.
Hopefully the morning hike continues as it was a definite highlight for our family as we learned about the local nature and industry.
Breakfast was wonderful, large and varied with the best fruit smoothies to drink. The rooms were clean, spacious and luxurious.
If you are headed to Sun Moon Lake then this is the place to stay. Thanks Again!

During the process of booking our accomodation, the B&B very nicely advised us on our itinerary at SML. They had no issues with us changing the side packages (we decided to do away with the themepark tickets after confirmation). On arrival, we were greeted warmly by Wayne's wife, mother and assistant. We settled down quickly and comfortably.

What made the stay so different is also the early morning walk. This is a complimentary tour offered by the B&B. Wayne brought us on a forest trail to enjoy the sounds, floral scent and great fresh air. We rested on an exclusive hilltop (this place is closed to general pubilc) to view beautiful sunrise. This was also where we were told the history of SML. A pity that the SML scenery was not very clear that morning. However, disappointment was reduced when he showed us some great photos taken on prior trips. He also shared with us of his views of the development and ecological well-being of SML. Do take up this trip if you have a chance to stay at Laurel Villa. Without which, in my opinion, the trip to SML (even with the boat ride, cable) would not be complete.

Thank you, Wayne and family, for making our stay so wonderful!

I came across Laurel Villa when i saw the great reviews written just by typing 'Sun moon Lake' in google. As it was a holiday meant to relax, i did not want to plan too much or check other hotels' rates, i booked it straightaway. When I reached there, met wayne and family, i knew i made the right choice. These host were so helpful on what we should do in sun moon lake. Judging that we came from the city, he wanted us to feel relax in sun moon lake, it is the best place to 发呆. In the morning, he invited us to join him for a short forest hike to the top to enjoy sunrise, listen to the birds chirp. In the noon, we biked in one of the many paths in sml. And we were lucky to bike the walkway which is famed top 10 walkways in the world. At night, we made friends with the host and had a chat and drink. It was all relaxing and fun. The best part is that there's so much to learn from the hosts, eg, the importance of loving our environment. Of course, the scenery is beautiful. Definitely a place to visit again;)

Judging by the numerous good reviews of this minsu in Sun Moon Lake, I booked 2 nights for a family room. Yes, the rate is not cheap but I was not disappointed.

Big room with parque flooring and even comes with a mini fridge. The package comes with breakfast and you can have second helping if you want. So is the dinner. The owner allows you to have more if you like it. We also bought the "ferry + dinner" package for TWD300 per head. Worth it because food is expensive in this very touristy town. Simple home-cooked food. We loved it.

This is family owned minsu and very service-oriented. I can feel the difference in service between family-owned and employee-staffed hostels.

There is sense of genuine service to make the guests feel welcome and happy. We truly enjoyed our stay here.

The owner also provides a sunrise watching tour in the wee hours of morning if you want to join.
