Although not near the Almirante-Isla Colón ferry dock, it is relaxing, great infraestructure and good meals (actually cheaper than most restaurants).

It is near the shore, so it's easy for when you book your trips with the captains and/or tour guides.

The price is good for what you get.

I would recommend them to improve is that when you go to the restaurant and order, the person sometimes forgets your order or doesn't know how to explain what's in certain dish or drink.

Everything else is OK.

Casa Max has good sized, clean rooms most with a balcony. The rooms can get pretty humid & have fans. Whilst we were there they put in air con in another room,so I'm guessing it won't be long before they all have it. There is a hostel over the road which can get pretty noisy but that's the only real drawback. It's not on the main drag but walkable to,in 5 mins. The wifi is patchy & had to stand outside our door to get it. The best feature is the restaurant downstairs at night time which serves some amazing food! At breakfast it's run by the hotel so average but dinner is one of the best experiences in the area!

Stayed here for a week while doing lots of trips around Bocas. Had a room with a shared balcony overlooking the sea and the street. It was nice to be a few minutes walk from town and the only real noise is from the party hostal opposite which stops the music around 12am. Our room was large but the backroom needed updating. On seeing some other rooms (when they were empty) it looks like there may be a up-date going on - aircon was being installed in one room. There is a ceiling fan (that needs to go faster) and a floor fan which was ok at this time of year. The towels were replaced everyday (not necessary for me) but often with more threadbare ones! Overall, would stay again but look at the rooms to see if there are variations. The restaurant downstairs is run separately and the food was very good on both occasions we went!

Came for 3 nights, stayed for 7 nights... wished we stayed longer!!!
Excellent rooms. Contemporary bathrooms with actual hot water (not just the shower head heaters).
The owner kindly let us change rooms after 2 nights (from #13 to #11) for the same price, then we had a bigger room with an ocean view- but it was the down season.
Close to the main street of Bocas.
Night security guard.
***EXCELLENT restaurant downstairs, Karmaway run by Steve & David... absolutely check it out, otherwise you're a fool!
By far the best, most cost-effective place we've stayed in Central America!!!
We will absolutely return!

mmmm….what do you feel like tonight? If it’s ultra-fresh, organic, and local Karmaway has it on the menu. From the drinks at the bar (passionfruit margarita’s and the signature strawberry jagermeister that arrives as a complimentary post-meal kiss) to the food, which is inventive, impeccably presented, and amazingly tasty, David and Stephen are doing it right in Bocas del Toro. It’s hard to pick a favorite at Karmaway – but the skewers of lobster and shrimp accompanied by a beet quinoa salad, the seafood risotto, and the tenderloin skewers have me dreaming of dinner. Located at Casa Max (across from Mondo Taito) this restaurant is a great addition to the great selection of restaurants in Bocas del Toro.

Room Tip: This review is for the restaurant - I have not stayed at the hotel.

We stayed there for 3 night in October (off season) and we really enjoyed the chilled atmospere on the balcony. The room was clean and had high ceilings and a balcony with hammocks and seaview. Great value. I can imagine it getting loud when there are people in the restaurant but we were lucky and enjoyed a queit and nice time!

Beatiful big rooms with good bed and firm matras. The new restaurant by the hotel, 'Karmaway' is delicious and different. For a midrage price you find luxery diner. If it's on the menu, try the lobsterravioli. It's amazing!
