We left Panama for an unplanned trip to Bocas del Toro. Our stay at the Hotel Palma Royale was great. The room was beautiful and the staff very nice and helpful. The location is central to everything. I would recommend to all.

Room Tip: No pool or fitness center, but made no difference to us. Jump in the water across the street and ha...

I frequently stay at the Palma Royale with business associates and for pleasure. There is not a nicer hotel with better amenities in Bocas del Toro. The entire staff from Carmen, Melissa, Keith, Bob, Roderick and the rest are wonderful, very helpful and knowledgeable people. The rooms are extremely well appointed with more amenities found in most major hotel chains. Enjoy your stay!

Room Tip: All of the rooms are fantastic, just depends on how many beds or floor plan you desire. Suites are a...

This hotel was on the expensive side considering there is no pool, no beach, and the elevator does not work. They wanted us to walk up 4 flight of stairs for a top of the line price. It was clean, the bed was comfortable , and most of the staff were professional.
The view from the second floor was pretty nice, and we enjoyed sitting on the balcony watching the activity below, both on the street and on the water. However, next rip is there is one, we will stay someplace else.

Room Tip: Stay away from 104 unless you want to be in the dark all the time, It is also right next to the lau...

Not only was the hotel modern with American standard finishes, the staff was friendly and helpful setting us up with activities from arrival to departure. They are knowledgable of the local attractions that are both popular and private giving us a great mix of experiences. The hotel is located next to a water taxi service which is convenient for access to the neighboring islands or the staff can easily contact a taxi to take you wherever you'd like to go. With breakfast included, great rooms, and a knowledgable staff Hotel Palma shines against its competitors.

This hotel is ok. We stayed in March for 9 nights in the deluxe suite. It's definitely the nicest hotel in Bocas Town, good location. Unfortunately is rained 7 of the 9 days, which kept us in doors most of the time. The staff was good and food was edible, service was a little slow. We got eaten alive by the Chitras(no-seeums) bugs. There are no screens on doors or nets on beds, we think they came in at night and climbed in bed with us. However, it's possible that we brought them in with us, tough to say since you can't see the tiny bugs. We used bug spray and bought some local bug oil, but no luck. Bocas is a pretty place, if it doesn't rain. Not much to do when it's pouring. We were actually there for dry season, bad luck I guess. My opinion is that Bocas Del Toro is good place to visit for a couple days, maybe spending a couple days on the other islands to change it up. A week is plenty of time to see the nearby islands. Also, too many backpackers....there are 25-30 hostels which makes for some nuisance in town. Checkout the weather before you go, perhaps buy trip insurance incase you decide to go.

The hotel rooms are very nice, it is a shame that the people at the reception is so incredibly rude and unpolite, this is the worst service I ever have, Specially Sasha this lady does not know anything about customer service. she seems to hate her job, and she does not care everybody noticing that. she is not there to help and, avoid her at any cost. The breakfast is cheap, and the last forever. The hotel has so much potential, but the need to work hard on the service

Room Tip: suites are beautiful

I bet this place was nice when it was first built, however now every electrical component in both $100 a night suites and the $200 a night suites (we upgraded from the $100 a night room to the better room hoping it would be quieter - it wasn't) is so noisy or not functioning this place is unbearable. The first room we were given $100 a night, was right beside the laundry room so we got the pleasure of hearing the washing machines start at 5 am, and the cleaning staff folding towels and such right outside our door. The celling fan a loud tick at each revolution, the air conditioner was so incredibly loud it couldn't be used, however even when it was on it didn't work. The refrigerator didn't work either.

So I asked if we could move to a different room after bearing this for 3 nights, the woman at the front desk explained no other rooms were available, only the $200 suites. So we upgraded to the better suite (though I am 100% positive other $100 a night rooms were available) The larger room was 2 bedrooms and cosmetically nice, however the lack of curtains - yes thats not all windows have curtains, and the windows that do have curtains are about as thick as a bed sheet. So expect to be woken with the sun at 5:30 am.

The better room is better, the fans work, the air conditioner works - although its pretty noisy and the pump turns off and on every 45 minutes - so its hard to sleep with. All in all the place is alright, its close to a nice hotel, but it just missed being a nice hotel by a mile.

I'll say the cleaning staff and bar staff are nice.

We are sorry that your experience was as not what we would hoped it had been.
Since your stay in December 2011, we have had 100 customers pass through that room without a mention of air, fan, and refrigerator not working.
Also, we could have easily solved these problems had you mentioned them during your stay.
All windows in all rooms have curtains. The sun does not rise in Bocas until 6:45ish, so your 5 am wake-up is not accurate.
Our cleaning ladies do not arrive to work until 8am, and the washing machines begin sometime thereafter.
If you ever plan a trip to Bocas, please allow us an opportunity to show you that Hotel Palma Royale truly cares about guest satisfaction.
