“Good central location with good breakfast and friendly staff”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 27 August 2014

Moved here from Mondo Taitu as I wanted to stay somewhere more central and possible a little cleaner. I got what I was after and also enjoyed the rooftop area which was great to chill at, and fell asleep in the hammocks a few times. It was annoying that the rooftop area closed at 10pm because it was a great place to chill.

The dorms themself were quite comfortable although it was really full when I was there. Bathrooms were clean.

Breakfast was self-cooked pancakes which were good especially when you have a big day of snorkelling or diving ahead of you. Wifi wasn't working upstairs (in the rooms/rooftop area) but was good enough in the reception, apart from the fact that everyone was sitting there using the internet so there wasn't too much space to sit. Staff were really nice as well and took the effort to remember my name which was a really nice touch.

the roof top with the valueble computers closes after 22pm
As well as the kitchen and all the porches !
It's not a hostel - it's a prison - literally !

No windows in the rooms nor the building, ac'a are shut down between 10-6pm and the place gets so hot and humide that it is almost unbarrible to stay in the accomodation during daytime.

The place gets veryy noisy at night time. And it is located at a very noisy area.

Moreover:
*Youll be charged 10$ for checking out after 11

*towles for 1$ + 5$ deposit. Why ??

First I didn't want to go to hostel heike, because it wasn't at the sea. But then I changed anyway. and it was great. The rooms are big enough. bunk beds are high. mattress are confortable. Breakfast with delicious pancake included in $10 (dorm/fan). Shower / Toilet are big and clean. stuff is very friendly. Terrace is nice to chill out in hammocks. It was quiet at night

Like many hostels the rooms and bathrooms at Heike are basic, but they are clean! The hostel has a really friendly atmosphere and a cool rooftop hangout with free computer/internet access. Every morning there is a big bowl of pancake mix in the kitchen so you can make your brekkie fresh when you wake up and tea and coffee is available throughout the day. It's situated in the middle of Bocas Town (although the town is small) and room rates are really cheap.
You get a lot for you buck here :)

Room Tip: Note you can't book in advance

We stayed 4 nights at the Heike Hostel in Bocas. The Hostel is rustic, but full of charm and amazing staff. The rooms were spotless and there always seemed to be someone cleaning the bathrooms or kitchen. The Hostel has a really good vibe and the staff are so friendly. There's a great terrace upstairs and the location is right in the heart of Bocas near shops, restaurants and tour companies. The only downside is there aren't many bathrooms and showers for the number of guests, but otherwise we'd highly recommend this Hostel.

Good hostel with a good atmosphere. Yes the rooms are small and crowded, but who really cares? You're sleeping there, not hanging out. Some comments say there are too few bathrooms, some say there's more than enough. Probably because there are only three bathrooms upstairs where most of the rooms are, but there are plenty of bathrooms downstairs. Nice rooftop terrace.

The gal at the front desk is great. She's really friendly and helpful. The guy who is sometimes working the desk is unfriendly and standoffish. He'll check you in or out, but I wouldn't ask him for anything more. But he's not normally there, and the really nice gal makes up for him.

There's a local guy named Nino who hangs out around the hostel, especially in the mornings, and sets up trips and activities. The guy is legit, he's not some scammer trying to weasel some extra money out of you. I strongly suggest letting him set up your activities.

Overall a cool place to stay. Not really quiet, but also not a crazy party hostel. And the free chocolate pancakes and coffee in the morning is a definite plus.

This hostel was a great place to meet people and centrally located on the main square across from where shuttles leave for Bocas Del Drago beach. The facilities however were very dirty and despite there advertised hot water, I never once was able to take a hot shower over 3 days. The pancakes are really just batter provided and you can cook your own with suboptimal stove and pancake flipper. The rooftop of the hostel is a nice hang out space but it closes promptly at 10pm (along with the kitchen, so be sure not to leave anything in the fridge that you will want past 10). This was a very odd rule considering the party town that Bocas is. Lastly the staff was not very pleasant when we arrived in the morning and did not speak any english and were quite useless in terms of directions, providing maps, or suggestions for what to do.

Room Tip: definitely go with a/c in the room as it gets very humid and these rooms seemed to be cleaned more o...
