“Like staying at a friend's oceanfront home...”
Reviewed 11 March 2009

What a great place!! The rooms are nothing fancy but they are very comfortable and quiet .. but what is WONDERFUL is the big back shared deck upstairs that overlooks the ocean - and the downstairs deck that's right on the water where breakfast is served in the morning (wonderful food) and beers are served in the evening. Lovely little garden to wander through from the street, that keeps it feeling private and secluded even though it's right in town. Overall this place is friendly, quiet, mellow, relaxing and just stunningly beautiful. For the money, this place is an absolute gem in the wackiness that is Bocas del Toro. Make sure that you request one of the two rooms that are ocean-facing - they're the most quiet and dang what a view.

Walk down to take a water taxi day trip - $20/person for snorkeling, stop at a dock-restaurant, and Red Frog Beach - can't beat it!

I'd read lovely reviews of the Bocas Inn on-line and in guide books so I directed my group or four there on arrival. The hardwood floors and view from the balcony were stellar. We spent some quality time in the hammocks on the porch before having a run-in with the couple who booked the ocean-front room and considered the porch their personal balcony (This is not the fault of the hotel but I wonder if it is properly communicated to guests that the more-expensive ocean front room is on a communal porch).

Those were the good points to the hotel. On the down side, the the rooms were small, the beds musty, and the mattress uncomfortable. The hot water is generated by a solar heater which results in luke warm water when the sun isn't out (often in the these islands) or when the other guest get to the shower before you.

The inn advertises a breakfast which I had read good things about but I was sorely dissapointed in what was served and it certainly isn't a reason to stay here.

Overall, the place is not awful, but there are other rooms on the island for the same price or less (we moved after 2 nights) which provide a much better experience.

Although we had a shared balcony and a smallish room, everything else about the Bocas Inn more than met our expectations and requirements. From the delightful and extremely friendly manageress, Hercelia, to the excellent food, we could not really fault anything. Located very close to the centre of town, the Bocas Inn is a little oasis, overlooking the water. Recommended.

We showed up at the hotel with no reservation. Nobody was at the front desk, so our taxi driver found someone for us and we reserved a room. The room was very basic, but clean and exactly what we needed. Bathroom was somewhat small, but the shower had nice water pressure. AC worked well and cooled the room quickly. Beds were small, but pushing them together solved that problem! :).

The staff at this hotel is very friendly and helpful. We booked a jungle tour with the front desk and it was a highlight of my trip. I liked how the hotel was not on the "main drag". It took us less than 5 minutes to walk to the main part of town, but it made it that our hotel was very quiet and not in the middle of the Bocas' parties, which happen each night.

The view from the hotel restaurant and upstairs landing it gorgeous. Fish swim in the water below and the breeze from the ocean is glorious.

Breakfast was very good (simple) and the bartender made very strong, yummy drinks.

Highly recommend this hotel.

There is a laid back unpretentious atmosphere. The staff are very friendly and very hospitable. Accomodation is very simple but clean - don't expect crisp linen bedding! Our room was at the top leading out to the veranda, with a beautiful view overlooking the sea. The bathroom was tiny and the shower quirky.

The Inn is of wooden construction complete with unlevel floors and swingy hammocks which add to the laid back country style atmosphere.

There is a communal area to watch TV (with the staff) and the dinning area is open and overlooks the sea.

Breakfast is basic but adequate. The Inn is well located for the airport and town.

We liked staying here as we felt 'down-to-earth' and it was non-touristy.

We stayed at this hotel for one night in May 2006. The room was decorated nicely with a lovely view, comfortable beds and good air conditioning. There was a lovely communal deck over the water with hammocks to relax in. The breakfast was average. The receptionist was a little over-friendly but meant well! The room was a bit pricey for Bocas del Toro. Very convenient location right in the centre of town near retaurants, shops, etc. 5 minute walk from the water taxi stop.

We stayed at the Bocas Inn during our honeymoon this summer. This was by far the best location in Bocas Del Toro. A stroll up the main street brought you to all of the fun restaurants and shops in the area. The Inn itself is located direct waterfront with a fun little bar and outdoor area for dinner and relaxing. The boats pull right up to this little inn to take you out snorkeling, etc.

We relaxed in our hammocks and took it all in. The staff could not be friendlier and the rooms were great. Spacious with nice bathrooms. After looking around at other area hotels, we realized that ours was a gem!

They even have little signs posted around the gardens telling you the history and origins of local plants and trees. Highly recommended!
