Tropical Suites Hotel
Ranked #1 of 13 Hotels in Bocas Town
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed 17 December 2010

Despite the 75 plus other reviews that rave about Tropical Suites, to not say something would be like eating and enjoying a magnificent home cooked meal and never thanking the chef!

We arrived in the rain, were met by Cesar at the airport and transported the short distance to the hotel where we were warmly and enthusiastically greeted by Chip and his wife Jaime (C and J)! That was the beginning of a love affair with the Tropical Suites. Yes, it rained everyday day but that did not stop us from exploring the beaches and restaurants and shops on several islands, all with J and C's truthful, straightforward and honest opinion. The staff of people that care for the property were incredible - nothing was impossible, everything was carried through, and always with such grace and class that I almost felt apologetic for even asking. Future plans call for a Martini Bar and small restaurant which will clearly attract more and more people and the Hotel will be even more popular than ever - a dream come true for C and J. The present arrangement for breakfast at Lily's, next door, is simply not to be missed! Additionally, C and J are planning major extensions for a horizon pool off the deck on the Sea, plus other changes that will only make this Hotel a gem in the whole of the Caribbean!

Dianne and I cannot say enough, except that it is our new favorite place in Panama (we are Panama residents and US American ex-pats) and will be back MANY times more. Thank you J and C. Merry Christmas and a Prospero Ano Nuevo.

John and Dianne

My husband & I loved this place the views and rooms were wonderful!! Jamie & Maida & all the staff made you feel so welcome from the moment you entered. The entire staff made you feel as if you were friends being welcomed into their home. They handled reservations etc. My husband forgot his phone charger and was expecting a VERY important business call we asked where we could get one and they offered us a blackberry charger to use. VERY convenient but the entire stay was like that . The rooms were spacious and view was incredible, bed was very comfortable, etc. When we return we will definitely be staying here as i have stayed at 3 other locations and none of them can compare for the price!!!!! Also the housekeeping actually folded and hung some clothes!! it was wonderful best service in that regards ever. if going to Boca's do yourself a favor and stay here you will be GLAD you did!!!!!! Cant wait to go back!..

A room with a view is an understatement for this hotel on the water; and to boot it is within walking distance to everything! Chip & Jaime add such a personal touch, as they greet everyone as though they are their closest friend. When I landed, it was pouring rain. And Chip, unsolicited, gave two travelers a ride to find a hotel within their price range. And he suggested other hotels besides his own! That just displays a love for the island. I would definitely recommend this hotel to others. Don't get too comfortable in the bed, as you could sleep the day away. The rooms are spacious. And with Chip/Jamie's dinner recommendations, it made my trip an out of the park homerun! I was a bit leary traveling alone, so I contacted the hotel several times to confirm my insecurities. And after experiencing the island, all of their email communications and phone call confirmations were valid. I couldn't have asked for a better vacation destination. I realize that there are other hotels on the water, and other hotels located in town at a lesser price. But, if you want a value (breakfast included at a neighboring restaurant), a view, and attention to detail, this is an easy decision.

My husband and I stayed in this hotel for 3 nights during the Panamanian Holidays. Jamie and Chip went out of their way to make sure we had everything we needed from information, water taxis, restaurant recommendations, excursions, etc. The room was spotless and the bed slept like a dream. This is the best place to stay when in Bocas Town. It is right on the water, close to all the good restaurants and a great spot to see all that the Bocas Del Toro area has to offer.

At first I reserved at a different hotel and decided to read reviews here and followed people's comments on this one. Glad I changed to this Tropical paradise. It was by far the best choice. This hotel has the best location and accommodation in Isla Colon. The rooms are beautiful and have everything you need, great ocean view, LCD TV, A/C, mini fridge, cups and wine glasses. You have everything at walking distance, a little supermarket, amazing seafood restaurants, a German bakery, an American fun bar (El Toro Loco) and a club (El Barco hundido) where locals and tourists mix to enjoy salsa and ocean view at night. Despite all the music around the town and across the other island, inside the room it was quiet and peaceful.

Upon arrival a lovely member of the staff picked us up from the airport and 5 minutes later we were at the hotel at our beautiful ocean view room. The staff was extremely helpful in finding us things to do and quickly contacted Gerardo who became our private tour guide for our entire stay. He took us to the most amazing islands and ocean spots. Patiently waited until we saw many dolphins swimming in the middle of the ocean and as we sunbathed with the starfish at the crystal clear waters. He also recommended great restaurants in bungalows in the middle of the water. We did many fun activities as well as relaxed.
The bed is hard to get out of in the morning it's so comfy! Don't forget to relax in the bathroom Jacuzzi after a day out. Bring your own bath salts, as these are not included as amenities. You do get makeup remover individual tissues, this was a nice touch and quite helpful as I had forgotten mine. In case you forget a beach towel you can rent one for your stay only $5!

Breakfast was another highlight. Lily's cafe offers various options and it is included. We became friends with Brenda, who served us the most delicious homemade bread. It was such a great experience, we were sad to leave!

If you visit during the week and mid season you can get good deals on excursions and booking online you get up to 25% discount.

If you decide to visit Bocas, this is the best hotel to stay at. Ocean view is worth the extra few bucks as well.

We will definitely come back!!

Make sure you request a room with a seaview & balcony. The room was spacious, with a very comfortable king-size bed, great air conditioner. Excellent location, every day we stayed out on the balcony and watched all the activites on the water. Breakfast was included at LuLus, next door to hotel but very slow service.

Upon our arrival, we met an amazing and caring staff ...
and also the owner Chip and his wife ...
The hotel is located in the center .. 2 minutes from the dock of the ferry, supermarkets, bars and all the action.
The room is spacious and containing a Jacuzzi and a bathroom,
a kitchen with all necessary tools for preparing food (anyone interested) and the view is spectacular. In our opinion, the most luxurious hotel on the main island of Colon.
Highly recommended for couples who want to indulge in one hand and have personal attention on the other.
We shall return....
