Red frog beach resort villa's are awesome! Lot of space, cool down pool and located in a green rain forest with fantadtic views on the ocean! We advise you to hire à golf car as the distance to the beaches and restaurants are quiet big. Restaurants are okay, not very special. For breakfast go to the lounge restaurant. For lunch to The beach restaurant and for dinner take à watertaxi to Bocas city. You can make nice trips by boat to the bay, or just snorkling. This location is à bit expensive (electricity, golf car, end use of mobile phones have to be paid seperately, but this location is worth it ( we saw many red frogs and à big family of sloths).

Myself, my husband and two teenage children stayed four nights in Villa 17 at Red Frog Beach. It is my understanding that Red Frog Beach used to contract with a water taxi service, now they do not which is unfortunate because arriving in Bocas del Toro we were very unsure which driver to use or water taxi to take. Upon arriving, we were given our golf cart and keys to our beautiful villa. I cannot recommend strongly enough the importance of renting a golf cart. It is $35.00 per day in advance and you will be miserable without one. The property is huge and you will spend all your time walking to the beach and back without one. Unfortunately, the roads are rocky and bumpy so you never have a smooth ride but I hope they will fix the roads at some point. Our villa was at the edge of the rainforest, so it was very private. It was absolutely beautiful, clean and comfortable. The trails in the rainforest behind our villa were great and provided great viewing of the famous and adorable red frogs. We found the beaches to be very special, some of the most beautiful we have ever seen. White sand, clear water and the bar and restaurant at the beach was great for both food and drinks, open until about 6 p.m. There is a man who rents beach chairs and boogie boards and things, which is great, but the beach chairs are terribly uncomfortable and are $5.00 per day per chair. The other restaurant near the hostal is not very good. I wouldn't even consider it a restaurant with minimal food and absolutely no service whatsoever. Basically, you are renting a lovely villa but there are no services at all on the island. We wanted to go into Bocas for dinner but were warned that it's very, very expensive at night and hard to do, so you need to take all your groceries and plan on cooking your own dinner every night. As this is not a hotel, there is no shampoo and conditioner nor tissues in the houses and our dishwasher was broken and never fixed during our entire stay. There is loads of construction going on everywhere, fortunately, Villa 17 has no views of construction and minimal noise from the construction. Be careful which villa you rent if you don't want to be next to a construction sight. Every villa is lovely and new with great views. This community is going to be fantastic if it ever gets finished, they add a restaurant and shuttle service and they up the services.

For my third trip to Red Frog Beach Resort, I got to enjoy a week in the first of ten Jungle Lodges being built at the Resort. The lodge is a multi-level structure, built on the Balinese model, that overlooks Red Frog Beach and the coastal area of Isla Bastimentos. It is NOT one of the villas for which Red Frog Beach Resort is famous, and in which we've stayed at in the past, it is BETTER! It is more in sych with the jungle environment and more consistent with the island "vibe." While it currently lacks a private swimming pool and does not have on-site laundry facilities it is otherwise completely furnished and can accommodate even the pickiest traveler. The bath and shower area are outside, but still ofter privacy, and are constructed with native materials. The doors on the first level are ornately carved, again on the Balinese model. Both bedrooms are self-contained and comfortably air conditioned. The kitchen is more rudimentary than the kitchens in the Villas, but more than adequate nonetheless. The kitchen contains all the accessories and appliances needed for a great vacation. The main living area, which includes a loft for additional sleeping accommodations, has a high ceiling and is adequately cooled by a fan and the jungle breezes that are consistent given the "altitude" of the lodge. The main living area has a seating area and dining area adjacent to the exterior deck area. The BEST attribute of the jungle lodge is the incredible view of Red Frog Beach and the coastal area of Isla Bastimentos. I can't wait to return!
