“Affordable food for neighbourhood...”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 11 April 2013

Flaming Wok located on a commercially important thoroughfare is a typical neighbourhood joint, where the localites from CR Park and Kalkaji have their fill on pocket-friendly Chinese food mostly as take-aways and home deliveries. While dining in is an option with its 20 odd seating capacity in a cozy setting, the restaurant seems to depend more on its clientele over tele-orders as we hardly found any diners on a Wednesday evening. Nevertheless the wait-staff was all eager to attend to us as we also desired to get the food packed.

At the outset, we specifically asked them to do away with monosodium glutamate (ajinomoto) in all the food orders as one of us might be allergic to the compound. For six of us, we had asked for two portions each of lemon coriander chicken soup (Rs.145.00 each) and sea food soup (Rs.195.00 each)…they were prepared rather well with lots of shiitake mushroom, chunks of chicken and a good number of shrimps along with fish in the seafood variant. Our main course order of a portion of chicken with mushroom & bamboo shoot (Rs.300.00) had a very distinctive aroma with generous use of fresh bamboo shoot pieces. For milder options, we chose a portion each of clay pot chicken (Rs.320.00) and clay pot vegetables (Rs.250.00) – both these dishes lived up our expectations. We also ordered two portions of veg hakka noodles (Rs.140.00 each) and a portion of veg fried rice (Rs.160.00); they were prepared quite well with less oil.

Flaming Wok offered a discount of 10% on the bill for take aways and the net amount including VAT for our entire order was Rs.2015/-. Such pricing would certainly win them clientele, who look for an affordable Chinese fare while escaping from the kitchen chores on an evening for a change!

“Nice Chinese Food”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 14 February 2013

if you like to have ample quantity of chinese food in or around CR park, then this is the place. Simple place to eat. Rice was the best. Don't look too much for the ambiance.

“Great food at reasonable price!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 22 April 2012

Flaming Wok serves very good Chinese (not the typical Indian-Chinese version) cuisine; don't focus too much on the ambiance, because the food easily compensates for that. Portions are very generous, so be careful with how much you order.

One word of caution - parking a vehicle can be a problem, especially when the restaurant is near-ull.

“unhygenic preparation”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 28 March 2010

One look at the kitchen will say why i am writing this. Very low on hygeine in cooking area, smelly drains in the kitchen say a lot about the preparations. Those who are vegetarians must say a big no to this restaurant, with chicken and vegetables being cut on the same place on the counter without cleaning even a bit.

The food tastes same, whether you order Manchurian or Szechuan? Does the chef has a clue about chinese food? Portions are small, prices are high, decor needs maintenance. It is more of a dhaba serving so-called-chinese food rather than a fine-dine.
