“Exotic Kababs at Exotic Prices”
Reviewed 25 April 2014

This is a nice place for a lazy Sunday afternoon or to take visitors from abroad because it gives a good spread and they get to taste a number of items in a single meal.

The food was good. I didnt like much, the dal. The galouti kebabs & ulta tawa paranthas are out of the world.

The dessert offerings are impressive. I liked their gajar ka halwa and phirni.

Little Pricey though (I felt so)...

“Forced buffet”
Reviewed 3 March 2014 via mobile

My friends and I went all the way to this restaurant wanting to delight our sense of taste. Unfortunately, we had to turn away because the waitress told us we couldn't have a la carte and had to choose the buffet option. Why?
We want the liberty to choose what to eat and in the proportions of our choosing.

“Very good but shy of excellence!”
Reviewed 1 September 2013

First of all the location. This outlet is not at the DLF Place Mall. Its at the MGF Metropolitan Mall at DLF Place, Saket. There are two other large malls at DLF Place. Make sure you head for the right one. Otherwise it could be quite a trek to the next mall.

For a fixed price you are served unlimited quantities of 5 types of non-vegetarian and 5 types of vegetarian kababs. Once you are done with the kababs, out comes two types of dals (lentils), a chicken preparation with gravy and a very fragrant, dry yet soft, Mutton Biriyani. Then follows a delightful choice of desert comprising a variety of Indian sweets and ice creams. The sewai, kulfi and the paan (betel leaf) flavoured ice-cream were outstanding. See pics of these items.

Kababs are the essence of Lucknowi and North Western frontier cuisine. The Great Kabab Factory, popularly called TGKF, does indeed do a competent job. Competent but not superlative. Here's my take on the different kababs they serve:

Burrah (mutton rib pieces) - Excellent. Soft, moist, succulent.
Galouti (minced mutton) - Excellent. Melt in the mouth burst of flavours and aroma. Goes best with their Ulte Tawa ke Parotha (thin flat breads).
Chicken chuza and other varieties - Mediocre. Oily, looked suspiciously like fried and not grilled/tandoor.
Fish - Mediocre. Fried and not grilled. The moment you fry a kabab half the fun is gone! Besides, ours had a coating of what tasted like crumbs. I wonder if this was fish fry or fish kabab! See the pic.
Vegetarian - Very good. Many innovative kababs here. Various types of Paneer (cottage cheese) kababs are standard but what was outstanding were kababs made from Naad Anjeer (Lotus stem and Fig), Apple, Pineapple, Potato etc. See pics I have uploaded.

Overall a pleasant enough experience. The concept is certainly innovative and the choice of kababs on offer a pleasant surprise. Its just that some of the kababs struggle to rise above mediocrity. But for all that, I certainly would visit again for a repeat experience....after a few months!
