“An oasis in noisy Delhi”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 13 March 2014

The Africa Avenue Hotel is in a good location, walking distance from a bustling market area where you can eat well and have your salwaar kameez made for your trip. The hotel staff was very accommodating and while the breakfasts were a bit on the blah side, the lunch we had there was excellent. Try the butter chicken and peanut masala. Rooms were very clean. I recommend this hotel.

I slept here the last night before leaving and I find this hotel one of the best hotels I have stayed in India. Room was little, but warm (in that period weather was cold!), bathroom was clean. Dinner was not very rich, but good. Helpful staff.

I stayed in this hotel on 8th Jan 2014 and I must say it was not a great experience. You would get many other hotels at this price.

The wifi did not connect, the TV connection went out after half an hour and upon complaint the reception guy told me its the satellite problem, however, the half an hour the cable worked for there was a pop-up on the TV screen that said 'due to non-payment of dues the connection will be disconnected' which it did in sometime. The reception person was simply trying to make a story, not knowing I belong to the travel industry and am aware of all these lame excuses.

There was no phone in my room.
The shower was just namesake, the water was literally dripping out of it. In 8 degrees cold temperature in Delhi, you would want a steady hot water shower.

I didn't even bother to wake up for breakfast as I did not want more disappointments early morning.

Simply slept, woke up and checked out.

Bad experience.

Room Tip: The Africa Avenue in Greater Kailash is wayyyyy better than this one so please opt for that one.

Rooms are not well maintained. Bathroom fittings are damaged. Buffet Breakfast is very limited choice. Location wise good. If one have job near Bikaji Cama place, can opt for it. Restaurant is good. Wi-Fi speed is good.

We stayed in this hotel for 2 nights in August 2013 so we didn't see any other guests due to it being low season. The hotel is in a quiet area about 12km south of Central Delhi but it is easy to wave down a rickshow to get into any other area of Delhi cheaply. We had a package tour booked with Cox & Kings so we are not sure what price we paid. The hotel had a dark feel to it and the rooms were poorly lit. The complaints from other reviewers about noise were probably true but all we could hear was the loud but effective air conditioning which we needed on all night. The room was comfortable with all facilities necessary. Breakfast consisted of tasty omelettes and plenty of toast with nice tea and coffee. We had to check out at 6am one morning and they obliged with breakfast. We didn't have other meals in the hotel. We ate in the Paherganj area where there are plenty of restaurants suitable for backpackers, cost of 200 rupees in a rickshaw from the hotel. We would stay here again providing the price is reasonable.

We stayed here as part of a tour of Delhi and Agra and this was not the hotel we had originally booked (due to a last minute change of plan). It's not a hotel I would recommend...

When we were dropped off at the Hotel Africa Avenue we requested a quiet room, as the hotel is situated on a very busy road. The check-in staff were not the most pleasant to deal with and the"Gentleman" insisted on continually speaking to my Husband even though I was checking us both in, very rude and arrogant.

Our so called quiet room was the noisiest room on the biggest and noisiest road with about 5 lanes of traffic either side!! We decided to have a word with reception and clarify that room 202 was a quiet room, with much wobbling of the head it transpired that we had been given this room as it was a double, we said we wouldn't mind a twin room if it meant getting some peace and quiet! We were then given room 207 which was much better at the back of the hotel, no view but who cares it was quiet.

We decided to go and view the "restaurant" on the top floor, we entered what can only be described as a works canteen full of men playing cards!! My Husband ordered 2 beers from himself an overpriced Sprite for me, 360 rupees later!!!! We decided not to eat anything in the restaurant partly due to the ambience (or lack of..) and opted to go back down to our room for a rest after our journey back from Agra that day.

The beds were comfy and the bed linen lovely and fresh. The rooms are large and quite bright considering we were at the back of the hotel so I was quite surprised at how airy the room seemed. The air-con worked well and was reasonably quiet. However the Wi-Fi connection was atrocious could not get connected at all during our stay.

The bathroom was OK but it seemed to harbour a lot of little black flies. What I really don't understand is the Hotel thinking it is a good idea to provide half used toiletries to their guests, absolutely disgusting. If it is a cost cutting exercise then supply the 3 rupee bars of soap I have seen all over Indian hotels and not a half used bottle of hair cream, shower gel etc. The amazing thing is the half used bottles all proudly displayed the Hotel Africa Avenue logo on them!!! Not good....

All in all OK for a quick stopover but I wouldn't want to stay here any longer than 1 night and would not feel safe staying here as a single female, this hotel has the feeling of a Hostel rather than a hotel. The corridors are very noisy outside of the rooms and the locking and unlocking of the room doors are incredibly loud and irritating.

Please also note that the photographs on Trip Advisor of the "small foyer" are not taken in this hotel those photographs belong to the other Hotel Africa Avenue.

Room Tip: Quiet room at the back.
