For anyone nervous about visiting Delhi (I am one of those and I have stayed in the city a number of times now), I would strongly recommend Amaaya and its location in South Delhi. Amaaya is located in a quiet residential enclave. Although very close to Hazrat Nizamuddin station (handy for trains to Ranthambhore), Amaaya feels like a peaceful retreat from the noise of the city.

The room was delightful, beautifully decorated, spotlessly clean and with quite extraordinary attention to detail (including fresh flowers from the rooftop garden). The owner, Ruuma, could not have been more helpful or charming - from her speedy and friendly email replies to her advice on places to visit. A first class breakfast included the best masala omelette I have eaten in India and fantastic home made (by Ruuma) jams with toast. There's wifi in the rooms, too.

Just in case you are dog phobic, Ruuma has a Lhasa Apso. However, he looks like a small bear and behaves like a cuddly teddy and felt like an unexpected additional perk of the stay.

We arrived late and were warmly welcomed by Rumma. On booking we'd requested a meal that first night and were served a delicious dinner by her staff. The next morning I opened my curtains to find my door opened up onto a balcony overlooking the tree tops. A very beautiful start to our Indian travels. My room and ensuit were as 'clean as a whistle' and simply and nicely decorated with a book shelf of interesting books. The location was great for getting around and we loved coming back to the serenity of the apartment at the end of a busy hot day. We stayed 3 nights but next time will stay a week to enjoy more of Delhi.

Ruuma and her staff made sure that I had a comfortable and interesting stay in Delhi, it is located in a great part of town, and Ruuma provides excellent advice on shopping and food. Her masseuse is also very good! The rooms are clean and have some lovely homey touches, including some good books. I look forward to staying there again.

Amaaya is a breath of fresh and peaceful air, safe for all, perfect food and ambience. Ruuma (landlady) looked after every need, welcoming and engaging she helped to map out places to see, eat and be entertained. It was our home for a few days and sure beat the sterility of any hotel. PS If you leave early tell your driver which gate they can enter the eastate from.

Lovely homely and peaceful guest house, moments from hamayans Tomb. Tastefully decorated, warm welcome from lovely and elegant Ruuma. Perfect stay.
PS I stayed for 3 nights with my 2 daughters, aged 10 and 11. The girls loved it too.

Rumma, holder of Amaaya House, is a elegant lady, she provided us detailed guide to shop, restaurant and place to hear qawwali, which make our first day in Delhi very easy and relax.
Rooms are excellent, with warm decorates, clean floor, comfortable beds and one rooftop where you can see the dome of Humayun's Tomb.
Tariff is a little expensive but valuable, I defenitely recommend Amaaya.

We stayed at Amaaya early August for a couple of nights and highly recommend this homestay. The room was immaculate, the food was delicious and Ruuma was the perfect hostess. The area is very central with many parks close by.
