Barely mentioned in tourist brochures this is a very important sight to visit and one held dear to many locals. There were hoards of school children when I visited. The memorial park to Gandhi is huge and not very well signposted. A ramp leads down to lockers where you must leave your shoes and then you enter the sunken garden which marks the site of his cremation. There is a black marble slab draped in flowers and an eternal flame burning. Before you leave there is a small gift shop with the very reasonably priced "Gandhi's Life in his own words" for just 5Rs.
