The Imperial is said to be of delhi as the Peninsula is to Hongkong and the Raffles to Singapore. It is so to some extent, but not fully. On the upside..the Imperial is beautifully posh.with its italian sugar lumps instead of the standard sachets,English tea bags in the rooms,The crested butter patties set in little china crucibles rather than the plastic supermarket ones ,High count sparkling white bed linens with the Crested Duvets, the fluffy crested towels in the bathroom, the impeccably turned out staff, the amazing Spice route restaurant, the Indianized Daniels tavern restaurant, the outstanding Italian eatery, the new spacious exceedingly well managed spa and the very spiffy salon The location in the heart of delhi is excellent. The hotel does evoke a British Raj nostalgia
The downside is ..rooms are old structured and dont have enough heritage element (like palace hotels in Rajasthan) to compensate for lack of modern comforts. When we checked in we had vide Preferred hotels membership upgrade to a heritage suite...surprising the suite did not have a single window !!! Hence we preferred to stay in the normal heritage room on the first floor This had a small window,,so in the day there is just not enough sunlight The bathrooms are old fashioned.room lighting is antiquated..the room is of no comparison to newer delhi hotels..Oberoi Gurgaon and Leela Palace Chanaktapuri Also..we found the staff esp at managerial level assembling in groups and having loud discussions at various points, which was highly disturbing. In fact when we checked in Jan 29th,2012..my wife overheard the young men behind the reception talking to each other in the local language using abuses that one hears on the street !! It was shocking. We found that the lower level staff..housekeeping,servers.,pool attendants were very courteous..but the manegerial staff tended to have above disturbing habits

Room Tip: Always ask a room on first or second floor, not ground floor Ask for garden facing room

From the moment we arrived nothing was too much trouble. We were upgraded to a suite by the very friendly reception staff. The driver they sent to pick us up from the airport was on time and in place and infact we used him all day the next day for a tour of Old Delhi.
The room was immaculate.
We ate in the Spice Route restaurant the first night and the experience was worth the cost. The Indian restaurant the next night was not so good but acceptable.
Swimming pool area was well looked after with willing and attentive staff.
When we returned a week later after our tour on the Palace on Wheels coming back to the hotel was a breath of fresh air.
I do not how it compares to other hotels in Delhi but I would return here again and again.

Room Tip: Did not se other rooms but Heritage Room looks good. This is what I booked but we were upgraded so n...

We stayed here on a stopover before continuing on to northern India. The staff make this hotel what it is - polite, hard-working, and sincerely friendly. The public areas are a real treat - great ambience, with a whiff of colonial charm. The prize has to be the Spice Route restaurant - lovely food, served in delightful surroundings. Breakfast was also of a high standard, with interior and outside seating options. In an ideal location if you wish to explore Delhi with car and driver, and on a limited timescale.

This was our second stay at The Imperial, we had already stayed there in 2010, November, for 4 days, and we didn't think twice about this time. The hotel is elegant, but has a welcoming feel to it - the service is always kind and professional, the rooms are spacious and comfortable and the smell in the corridors is a well-thought detail. The food in the restaurants that we tried (Spice Route and San Gimignano) is delicious as well as in the breakfast, which is best taken at the veranda, by the garden. This time we were positively surprised by the new spa, which has a wonderful decor and atmosphere, and impeccable service.
I would definitely stay here in another visit to Delhi.

the Imperial is a delightful representation of colonial architecture. The problem with staying here is that other similarly priced venues in New Delhi far exceed the style of service and the personal involvement of staff so that the hotel just is not worth the price. That is not to say it is not a lovely place to stay,it is simply that places like the Taj Mahal offers so much more that the experience of India at its best will not be had at the Imperial. The service at the Imperial is erratic at best. The inconsistency which is reflective most likely weak managementis is painful when you look at the beauty of the hotel. Comparing to the Taj Mahal the Imperial appears dumb and disconnected whereas the Taj Mahal is crisp, motivated, and offers extremely personal services. I stayed at both hotels and you can see to where iI would return

Room Tip: do not stay on the first floor, check the room for mold. The wary of diffusers and to much rose perf...

My wife & I stayed here for 3 days in February. We were in a Deco Suite. The entire stay was amazing. The staff were incredibly friendly & solicitous. The suite was gorgeous, the bed very comfortable. The spa & fitness center are modern, spacious and clean. The Spice Route restaurant was amazing - gorgeous decor & incredible food. We were sad to leave!

Since 2009 I have been staying at The Imperial 10-12 nights each year. Its friendly staff, superb facilities and fine restaurants make my visits there eagerly anticipated and highly pleasurable. From the friendly greeting by the Front Desk and Concierge staffs to the final "goodbye" as I hop into my black and yellow taxi to the airport, everything is as perfect as a hotel can be. Prateek and Albert among the Concierge staff are amazing. In fact, I am perfectly happy to leave my SIM card with them so that it won't expire when I am away In India, if you don't use a local SIM in 30 days it expires. My customary room, 227, is always ready and welcoming. This time I realized how very comfortable the bed was having just arrived on the non-stop from Newark. The luxury toiletries are a pleasure. Breakfast in the 1911 Restaurant is a delight as Bopal runs the establishment with grace and charm. The freshly baked croissants are always delicious. My best discovery this trip was the newly refurbished "Daniell's Tavern," The Hotel's Indian eatery. The curries are excellent and can be spiced to your taste. Of course, the new spa provides great treatments. The swimming pool is incomparable! All of this is managed by Vijay Wanchoo, The Hotel's Executive Manager. His staff is always at your service with a friendly smile! One final note, do walk through the halls to see the collection of paintings, prints and sculpture that adorn the walls- all museum quality. I invite you to enjoy a stay at this wonderful "palace" of a hotel. It truly can become your home.
