If it really was his former residence he must have had a wonderful life and a big family...

Wonderful hotel, impressive without being a stuffed shirt. From the greeting to the farewell we had a wonderful stay. Initially stayed in a Heritage Room which was very comfortable. It seemed a fair walk from the foyer but it never seemed a problem as the walk through the halls with all the fabulous old prints was always interesting.

On our return, I had booked a Grand Heritage room but they upgraded us to a Deco suite which was a lovely set of rooms and an excellent example of art deco. A bit of a brickbat for some mechanical noise all night - subdued but annoying. May have been from the roof or outside of the hotel so cant be too censorious.

Food and Drink - the 1911 bar was fabulous as was the restaurant overlooking the garden. Food was excellent. Prices for food were good for what you got. $25 for a glass of run of the mill chablis was stretching it a bit.

Food at Spice Route was lovely as was the restaurant.

Food at San Gigagnamo was mixed. Lyn's fish was very good my Angel Hair pasta with seafood was an appalling gluggy shambles.

Service - from start to finish this was excellent except for the chap in the small bar who didn't listen when my wife asked for no ice in her G&T, he then removed it piece by piece with tongs...

A wonderful hotel with equally wonderful service. The only thing that marred the experience was the work going on to extend the metro service. Immaculately clean, an excellent buffet breakfast, all public rooms and corridors evoking colonial splendour.

My husband and I flew in from London overnight in order to start a travelling trip around Rajasthan. We were greeted by the driver in arrivals and got into a lovely clean car and given some water and a hand towel. Check in was swift and we were taken to our room. The room was quite small but the furniture was lovely and the hotel had a great colonian feel to it which was very nice. The bars and restaurants are very nice too. Breakfast was really good and gave lot of variety. We had dinner at the Spice Route, the food was very delicious (thai green curry especially) but it is overpriced! Overall a great place to start off a trip to India in my opinion and would reccomend it to other leisure travellers!

Room Tip: Ask the size of the room and see if you can get a bigger one

I first visited The Imperial in 1978 when living in Delhi. I dined there regularly. After a morning's hard bargaining with the clothing merchants at the stalls along Janpath, the Imperial provided a wonderfully fresh and peaceful haven where I would sit by the pool, admiring the beauty of the building and consume charcoal grilled chicken tikka and chilled nimbu pani (fresh lime water). On future visits to India, I stayed regularly at The Imperial and experienced the quality of its beautiful interior and cool guestrooms, with marble bathrooms and crisp white cotton bathtowels. The staff were wonderfully attentive. So now, many years later, it is a joy to find that, whilst the city has grown noisily around it, this beautiful hotel is still the haven of calm and splendour it always was. I'm already planning my next visit.

We stayed here for two nights during a recent visit to Delhi on our way to a friend's wedding in Jodhpur. The hotel is amazing. Easily one of the top three hotels I have ever stayed in. The rooms were spacious and the inlaid marble floors were marvelous! The hotel staff was great - there was always someone around to answer a question or get whatever you needed. The spa was great as well. We had excellent treatments during our visit. We enjoyed the history (it felt like we stepped back in time) and artwork throughout the hotel. The breakfast was top notch as well. Between the service, the amazing marble floors and the history, you won't find a better place in Delhi.

We were a bit nervous of our first trip to India and wanted a lovely first experience. Wow did we get it.

The Imperial is an art deco building and decorated in the art deco style in the heart of New Delhi. Would not be surprised to see Poirot coming down the corridor. This may be the loveliest hotel we have stayed in anywhere. It is not stuffy; instead we felt like a member of an extended family.

The building is architecturally interesting and beautifully decorated with antiques and old prints. The staff is helpful and friendly. The breakfast buffet is a treat including three types of the hotel's own honey.

Our room was large and faced a courtyard and was quiet. We had a very comfortable bed, a modern bathroom.

The food and service in the restaurant Spice Route was fantastic.

Would stay nowhere else in Delhi if we return one day.

Split my stay in Delhi between Imperial and Taj Mahal. Hotel picked us up at airport, lovely car, top-notch team. Unfortunately a new metro station is being build slap-bang in front of the hotel, no noise but bit tricky to get in and out - though there is not exactly European-style street life in the area (which is supposed to be upmarket/esp Connaught) - it may suffer from the fall-out of the building work going on. We arrived with early flight but they found us a free room very quickly (by 8 am) - five stars to the receptionists!!! - Hotel lovely, very nice atmosphere, pool heated, spa very nice, at in Spice Route and Daniells - both very nice, breakfast offers good choice/lovely Muesli if you are into it. Bathroom could have been fitted out more cleverly - spacious but no bidet (no hotel we stayed in in India had one), but no shower cubicle, only bath and shower curtain
